Abstract:
An intake duct for introducing outside air into an air cleaner of an internal combustion engine is provided which includes a hollow duct body with an opening, and a piece of non-woven fabric, formed in a flat shape, is joined to the duct body to close the opening. The duct body includes a circumferential wall formed of a resin, and the opening is formed along a plane extending through a portion of the circumferential wall. The piece of non-woven fabric is fixed to the duct body so that some of the resin of the duct body penetrates into the non-woven fabric.

An outboard motor is mounted with a multiple-cylinder engine having cylinders to which intake air is distributed through the intake manifold unit of an intake unit, respectively. The intake manifold unit comprises an intake manifold body formed of a synthetic resin, an idling air control (IAC) valve for regulating a quantity of intake air into the intake manifold unit in an idling operation state, a valve holder to which the IAC valve is operatively connected in a floating manner, and an elastic member through which the IAC valve is mounted to the valve holder. The IAC valve, the elastic member and the valve holder are coupled integrally with each other and mounted to the intake manifold body in the floating state.
Abstract:
An inertia charge intake manifold is associated with an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders. The intake manifold includes a plurality of elongated separate branch pipes each corresponding to a respective one of the cylinders. The intake manifold also includes a common flange for connecting a first end of each branch pipe to the internal combustion engine. The common flange has a first surface attached to the internal combustion engine. Further, the intake manifold includes a surge tank to which a second end of each branch pipe is connected. The common flange, the surge tank and each branch pipe are made of a hard thermoplastic synthetic resin. The common flange is integrally connected to the surge tank.
Abstract:
A plastic air intake assembly comprising, for example, upper and lower housing members with the upper member underside and the lower member upper side having a continuous 3-dimensional perimeter mating surface. The upper member mating surface being formed with a chamfered-shape in cross-section and the lower member mating surface being formed with a complementary chamfered-shape in cross-section. The mating surfaces are bonded together in an overlapping flush manner by suitable means, such as heat-cured adhesive, forming a continuous sealed scarf joint parting-line having a low profile with the mating surfaces lying in generally parallel planes with their associated housing wall portions.
Abstract:
The invention concerns an intake system, in particular an intake pipe of thermoplastic plastics for the intake air of an internal combustion engine with in particular cylinder rows arranged in a V-shape. The intake system comprises at least two elements (10, 14), the first element (10) having a substantially closed shape and simultaneously forming the lower half-shell of the intake pipes. The second element (14) is designed as the upper half-shell of the intake pipes and is connected to the first element (10) by the plastics welding technique.
Abstract:
A field replaceable unitary manifold housing for providing combustion air and combustion fuel to an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The housing includes an air purification cavity having a spaced apart air intake and air discharge. The housing also includes a filter for purifying air disposed in the air purification cavity intermediate the air intake and the air discharge. The housing also includes a hollow elongate member having a first end coupled to the filter and a second end coupled to a plenum chamber for directing the air, the plenum chamber being integral with the air purification cavity. The housing also includes a plurality of channels, each channel integral with the housing and having a first end integral with the plenum chamber and a second end coupled to a cylinder head of the engine. The air intake induces air into the air purification cavity, the induced air is purified by the filter, the hollow elongate member directs the air from the filter to the plenum chamber, and the plurality of channels direct the air from the plenum chamber to the cylinder head.
Abstract:
An integrated intake manifold and air cleaner system is provided by a molded plastic induction module including molded lower and upper manifold pieces welded together. A series of upright walls on the upper manifold and a cover piece form a box-like enclosure in which an air cleaner element is disposed mounted to a throttle body on the upper manifold piece. A fuel rail and injector are also disposed within the enclosed space. Other components such as the ECU can optionally be mounted within the enclosed space. Resonator and expansion chambers are also defined within the enclosed space.
Abstract:
A bonded multi-piece plastic automotive air intake assembly having first and second housing members that include a 3-dimensional mating surface. The first member has a continuous first perimeter edge and the second member has a continuous second perimeter edge. The first perimeter edge has a central tongue portion that extends outwardly from the first edge. The tongue portion has first and second wall surfaces. The second peripheral edge has a groove extending inwardly from the second peripheral edge and mates with the tongue portion. The tongue portion and groove form a U-shaped channel that receives an adhesive therebetween. The adhesive forms a continuous bead that seals the channel between the first and second housing members. A plurality of alignment spacers are positioned between the tongue portion and the groove to align the tongue portion centrally within the groove.
Abstract:
A suction control device for a multiple cylinder internal combustion engine comprising a shell body presenting a suction path communication to each cylinder in a multiple cylinder internal combustion engine, a rotary shaft (21a) penetrating and born by the shell body, a butterfly valve (21) supported by the rotary shaft and provided in each of the suction paths so that it can freely open or close the suction path, and a restricting means for restricting movement of the rotary shaft in the axial direction; wherein the rotary shaft and the butterfly valve are monolithically formed with a resin material, the shell body is made from a resin material, and the restricting means comprises an expanding piece (21b) monolithically formed on the rotary shaft and having a width in the radial direction thereof, a contact wall (24) formed on the shell body and slidably contacting and supporting the expanding piece, and a resilient energizing member (33) for energizing the expanding piece to contact it to the contact wall. With this feature, the weight reduction of the device can be achieved and also the rotary shaft can bee accurately and precisely supported in the thrust direction and can be prevented from becoming loose.
