摘要: A system and method for measuring signals having a wide range of intensity components using detectors adapted for use in biological analysis devices. In certain biological analysis applications, signals emitted by a sample may have intensity components that vary over several orders of magnitude. Measurement of such a signal may yield an acceptable quality for one intensity component at the expense of another component. For example, a detector configured to measure a relatively weak intensity component may cause it to overflow when subjected to a relatively strong intensity component. The detector can be adapted to be operated at different configurations to allow measurements of different components of the signal, and the results can be combined to yield an accurate representation of the signal.

The video camera is provided with a controllable iris aperture, a controllable overall RGB signal gain, independently controllable RGB signal channel gains and a controllable RGB signal channel balance. The controllable parameters are controlled by a control unit. The control unit generates signals from an image signal received from the video camera. The signals are used to correct the controllable parameters to improve camera image capture performance.

摘要: A flow cytometer includes a plurality of detectors for providing voltage pulse signals over a four decade range as particles pass through an illuminated detection station. Each voltage pulse signal is processed and provided to a first sample and hold for storage. Thereafter, the value in the first sample and hold is amplified by one or thirty-two, depending upon its magnitude, and stored in a second sample and hold for subsequent provision to a sixteen bit analog to digital convertor (ADC), one signal at a time. The first sample and hold is then free to store a new value while the old value is awaiting provision to the ADC. The ADC converts the signal received from the second sample and hold to a fifteen bit digital signal and uses the sixteenth bit to manifest whether the signal stored in the second sample and hold was amplified by thirty-two.

摘要: A film densitometer for generating digital density values as a function of analog transmittance signals received at an input. A comparator coupled to the input compares the transmittance signals to one or more range references characterizing a plurality of ranges of transmittance signal magnitudes, and provides digital transmittance range signals as a function of the comparison. An amplifier amplifies the transmittance signals to provide amplified transmittance base signals. A gain control circuit coupled to the amplifier and the comparator controls the gain factor of the amplifier as a function of the magnitudes of the transmittance signals. The amplified transmittance base signals are converted to digital transmittance base values by an analog-to-digital converter. A lookup table of data characterizing the logarithmic relationship between transmittance base values and density base values is stored in base memory. A lookup table of data characterizing the relationship between the transmittance range signals and range gain values is stored in range memory. A digital processor accesses the memory as a function of the transmittance base values and transmittance range signals, and generates the digital density values as a function of a sum of the density base values and range gain values.

摘要: A light measuring device wherein a correct measured value can be obtained even if incident light varies in time or a luminance or brightness of an object for measurement is insufficient. The device comprises a branched optical fiber of a random specification having therein three mutually independent light transmission paths for introducing light from a common input end to three output ends. The input end of the optical fiber is located at a slightly defocused position of an objective lens while the output ends are individually opposed to three light receiving elements having different spectral sensitivities. Three components of light are simultaneously converted into electric signals and then into digital values by circuit means each including a double integration analog to digital converter. When a luminance is insufficient at a light receiving element, the gain of the associated analog to digital converter can be adjusted so as to assure appropriate measurement of light.

摘要: A system for measuring temperature within a region to be tested includes a sensor means responsive to the temperature within the region for transmitting light energy along an optically-transmissive path and detector and amplifier means responsive to the light energy for producing an output signal which represents the intensity of the light energy. A signal processor electronically calculates a display signal from the output signal which represents the temperature within the test region. The signal processor performs this calcuation by solving Planck's equation, and a successive bisection technique is utilized to achieve extremely fine resolution of the temperature.
