Abstract: An optical device for optical signals comprises: a photodiode configured to receive the optical signals; and a linear transimpedance amplifier (TIA) having an input stage, an output stage, and at least one variable gain amplifier (VGA) provided between the input stage and the output stage. The optical device also comprises: an automatic gain control loop configured to rectify an output of the at least one VGA and compare the rectified output with a threshold gain setting to generate an automatic gain control voltage; and a detection circuitry being configured to detect a rate of change in the automatic gain control voltage and being configured to determine a first state indicative of an absence of the optical signals at the photodiode. At least in response to the determined first state, the detection circuitry is configured to disable the output stage of the linear TIA.

Abstract: An embodiment light sensor includes an array of pixels arranged in rows and in columns. Each pixel comprises a photodiode, a sense node coupled to the photodiode, and an initialization transistor connected to the sense node. N successive pixels of a column or of a row are associated, where N is greater than or equal to 2. The initialization transistor of a first one of the pixels arranged at one end of the association of the N pixels is connected between the sense node of the first one of the pixels and a node of application of an initialization potential. For each two successive pixels among the N pixels, the initialization transistor of one of the pixels that is the most distant from the end is connected between the sense nodes of the two pixels.

Abstract: An optical sensor includes pixels. Each pixel has a photodetector. A readout circuit performs a process over an exposure time where the photodetector is connected to a reverse bias voltage supply to reset a voltage across the photodetector, and the photodetector is disconnected from the reverse bias voltage supply until that the voltage across the photodetector decreases in response to received ambient light. An ambient light level is then determine an based on a number of times the voltage across the photodetector is reset over the exposure time.

Abstract: A light detection module, a light detection method and a display device are provided. The light detection module includes N light sensing circuits, a control circuit, a capacitance integrating conversion circuit, and a processing circuit; N is a positive integer; wherein the N light sensing circuits respectively sense light signals of different colors to generate corresponding photocurrents; the control circuit is configured to control to provide photocurrents generated by the light sensing circuits to a capacitance integrating amplifying circuit in a time division manner, and to control a conversion parameter of the capacitance integrating amplifying circuit; the capacitance integrating conversion circuit is configured to perform integrating conversion on the photocurrent according to the conversion parameter and an integration time, to obtain an analog output voltage; the processing circuit is configured to obtain characteristics of the light signal according to the analog output voltage. In the present disclosure, the current integration method is adopted by the capacitance integration conversion circuit, and the photocurrent is converted according to the integration time, so that the number and area of the photodiodes connected in parallel in the light sensing circuit can be reduced by increasing the integration time, the space and cost are reduced.

Abstract: Examples of an apparatus are disclosed. In some example, an apparatus includes a photodiode configured to generate a charge in response to incident light; a measurement capacitor to store at least a part of the charge to generate a voltage; and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) circuit configured to: in a first measurement period, compare the voltage at the measurement capacitor against a static threshold voltage to generate a first output; in a second measurement period, compare the voltage against a varying threshold voltage to generate a second output, wherein the varying threshold voltage varies with time according to a pre-determined pattern; and generate a final output representing an intensity of the incident light based on either the first output or the second output.
