    摘要: An explosive device for use in removing ice formed in railroad tunnels and similar underground cavities comprising a base member and mating cap member assembled to form a rigid blast-directing assembly having a groove formed around its periphery at the juncture between the base and cap members, and a ring-shaped explosive substance, detonable by an electric charge, seated therein. The peripheral groove is of sufficient depth and width that any explosive gases and heat produced therein will be directed radially outward from all sides of the assembly in a relatively thin, fan-like pattern. In use, a plurality of the devices are fastened in clusters to the interior wall and ceiling surfaces of a railroad tunnel or other underground cavity at those points where water seeping into the cavity is likely to freeze into ice. Whenever the ice accumulates to a thickness protruding beyond a predetermined distance from the interior surface of the cavity, the explosive substance seated in the groove around one or more selected assemblies may be detonated by the application of a remotely-generated electric charge to shear away the protruding ice. As the ice reforms, the explosive substance within different assemblies may be detonated, thereby keeping the cavity relatively ice-free over extended periods of time.

    摘要: A sealed vessel, containing a fire extinguishant or explosive suppressant, has, clamped to the outside of a frangible wall portion of the vessel, a cap-shaped member supporting an explosive line charge arranged around part of a circle and held against the vessel. An electrically actuated detonator is also carried by the cap member for detonating the charge and opening the frangible opening to release the vessel contents into an exit pipe. A layer of explosive suppressant is carried by the cap member to overlie the explosive charge and to suppress the advance of its explosive along the exit pipe.

    摘要: Deep (long) parallel holes are drilled into a mine or tunnel face and explosive charges selectively exploded in some, but preferably not all, of such holes to fragment surrounding rock and join the holes. Methane migrates through the fractured formation to the hole which has not been exploded, or to a separately drilled drainage hole, and the unexploded or separate hole is first used to draw off explosive gases, where this is a problem. Then water is pumped through such hole or holes to saturate the formation to reduce dust suspension and also to cause additional gas migration. The fractured formation facilitates mechanical boring machines and reduces tool wear. The explosives are preferably provided at spaced intervals along a carrier tube with stiffeners to enable the tube to be pushed into the deep hole and with built-in electrical connections and stemming. The carrier for the explosives is preferably plastic and thus does not damage boring tools.

The wire line includes centralizers designed to be quickly assembled to and detached from the line as well as means for securing the explosive cord to the line in a desired degree of tautness. The explosive cord includes means for eliminating stretch and preferably embodied therein to safeguard against its elongation, ballooning, and looping by frictional or other forces and temperature rise encountered during the servicing operation. A readily opened and closed blowout protector is securable across the well head to seal the well closed about the wire line to avoid a blowout if the servicing operation releases highsubsurface pressures into the well.

    摘要: A method for eliminating mine blockades or similar obstacles comprises arranging a blasting charge in the form of an explosive gas or gas mixture or a liquid and/or solid component-gas mixture, such as a foam, over the area to be cleared; and igniting the charge to cause a detonation over the area to effect a detonation of the mines to render them harmless. The explosive is applied to the area by means of an elastic grid formed of a plurality of interconnected hose elements which are gastight and pressuretight and which may be unwound such as by inflation so as to extend outwardly across the mined area. The hose elements of the grid form a receptacle for the blasting gases or the explosive gas liquid or gas solid mixtures such as a foaming material forming the explosive. Alternatively the explosive may be applied to the minefield by means of a rocket or other vehicle containing the explosive foam or its ingredients through a discharge nozzle for ejecting and spreading the explosive over the blockaded area. The recoil from the ejected explosive is utilized to propel the rocket forward and or upward. The explosive may also be ejected through a nozzle gun connected to a container on a land vehicle such as a tank.
