Abstract: A corona comprises a central electrode surrounded by an insulator, which is surrounded by a conductive component. The conductive component includes a shell and an intermediate part both formed of an electrically conductive material. The intermediate part is a layer of metal which brazes the insulator to the shell. An outer surface of the insulator presents a lower ledge, and the layer of metal can be applied to the insulator above the lower ledge prior to or after inserting the insulator into the shell. The conductive inner diameter is less than an insulator outer diameter directly below lower ledge such the insulator thickness increases toward the electrode firing end. The insulator outer diameter is also typically less than the shell inner diameter so that the corona igniter be forward-assembled.

Abstract: Provided is an ignition plug (15) that has an antenna (54) for emitting high-frequency EM waves to combustion chamber (20) of an internal combustion engine (10), wherein the propagation velocity of the flame is augmented using the high-frequency EM waves emitted from the antenna (54). The ignition plug (15) has an ignition plug body (30) and an antenna (54). The antenna (54) is located on the front-tip side surface of the cylindrical second conductive member (33) within the ignition plug body (30), which accommodates a rod-shaped first conductive member (31) and cylindrical insulation (32) surrounding the first conductive member (31).

Abstract: A reversed-assembled corona igniter including an insulator, central electrode, and metal shell, wherein an outer diameter of the insulator increases adjacent a lower end of the metal shell to achieve an electrical advantage is provided. In addition, the insulator maintains strength because is not placed under tension during or after assembly, or once disposed in an engine. To achieve the increase in insulator outer diameter, the insulator includes a lower shoulder adjacent the shell firing end. An intermediate part, such as braze and/or a metal ring, is disposed between the insulator outer surface and the shell adjacent the shell firing end. To prevent tension in the insulator, the insulator can be supported at only one location between the insulator upper end and the insulator lower end, for example along the intermediate part.

Abstract: An aim of the present invention is, in a plug for high frequency emission disposed at an end of a casing having an emission antenna, to suppress a high frequency noise emitted from the emission antenna. The present invention is directed to a plug for high frequency emission including a transmission line for transmitting an electromagnetic wave, an emission antenna for emitting the electromagnetic wave supplied via the transmission line, and a casing constituted by a cylindrical shaped conductor, provided with the emission antenna at one end of the casing, and accommodating therein the transmission line extending from the emission antenna toward the other end of the casing. Inside of the casing, a central conductor electrically connected to the emission antenna and an outer conductor spaced apart from and surrounding the central conductor are embedded in an insulator so as to collectively constitute the transmission line, and the outer conductor is disposed in and held in non-contact with the casing.

The corona igniter (20) can be reversed-assembled by inserting an upper end (42) of the insulator into a firing end (56) of the shell.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a corona ignition device having: an insulator, which bears an electrically conductive coating, which forms a tubular face; a central electrode, which sits in the insulator and leads to at least one ignition tip; and a holder, in which the insulator sits. According to this disclosure, the insulator has an annular shoulder, on which is situated the end of the tubular face of the coating that faces away from the at least one ignition tip. A method for producing a corona ignition device is also described.

Abstract: An ignition plug 10 comprises an elongate cylindrical body 12 of an electrically insulating material having a first end 12.1, a second end 12.2 opposite to the first end and a first face 14 at the first end. A first elongate electrode 16 having a first end 16.1 and a second end 16.2 extends longitudinally in the body. The first electrode terminates at the first end thereof a first distance d1 from the first end of the body in a direction towards the second end of the body. The body hence defines a blind bore 18 extending between the first end of the first electrode and the first end of the body. A second electrode is provided on an outer surface of the body and terminates at one of a) flush with the first face 14 of the body and b) a second distance d2 from the first end of the body in a direction towards the second end of the bod.

Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to provide an electromagnetic wave emission device in which the destination to which an electromagnetic wave is supplied can be switched among a plurality of emission antennas, wherein there are no problems such as breakage of a switching element even in a case where a large-power electromagnetic wave is emitted. The present invention is an electromagnetic wave emission device characterized by the following: an electromagnetic wave output from an electromagnetic wave generator is distributed to a plurality of emission antennas, and then from among the plurality of emission antennas, a target antenna having plasma nearby is supplied with an electromagnetic wave distributed to the target antenna and all or part of the electromagnetic waves reflected by the emission antennas other than the target antenna; and the all or part of the electromagnetic waves distributed to the target antenna and all or part of the electromagnetic waves supplied to the target antenna after reflection by the emission antennas other than the target antenna are emitted from the target antenna to the plasma.
