Abstract: A method for treating or mitigating Parkinson's disease (PD) symptoms or progression, including administering an effective amount of nicotine to a subject in need thereof, via inhalation using a nicotine inhaler or via nasal spray using a nicotine nasal spray. Significant dose-dependent improvement of all symptoms by nicotine inhaler or nicotine nasal spray is expected. A novel treatment in PD is thus provided.

Abstract: A myocardial blood flow analysis scan includes incorporating a pharmacological kinetic model with the standard factor analysis model where each time activity curve is assumed to be a linear combination of factor curves. Pharmacological kinetics based factor analysis of dynamic structures (K-FADS-II) model can be applied, whereby estimating factor curves in the myocardium can be physiologically meaningful is provided. Additional optional aspects include performing a discretization to transform continuous-time K-FADS-II model into a discrete-time K-FADS-II model and application of an iterative Improved Voxel-Resolution myocardial blood flow (IV-MBF) algorithm. Where the model is applied without assumption that a right ventricle tissue curve and a left ventricle tissue curve obey a particular mathematical relationship, a least squares objective function can be applied to obtain estimates for parameters of the pharmacological kinetic model by applying a majorize-minimize optimization technique to iteratively estimate the curves.

Abstract: A redundant and diverse secondary control system mirrors a primary control system but has some fundamental structural difference as compared to the primary control system to prevent a spread of a security breach from the primary control system to the secondary control system. The secondary control system may operate on different hardware built on different software written with different programming language as compared to the primary control system while performing the same function as that of the primary system. By hardware coding the algorithm to produce actuation signals, software based viruses and worms cannot interfere with the secondary control system's operation. A monitor device receives actuation signals from both the primary and secondary controls signals to determine whether an error occurred and to provide correct actuation signals to the controlled system.

Abstract: A gelling nanofluid and methods for manufacture are provided. The composition and methods for manufacture produce nanofluid gels so that the settlement of nanoparticles in a base fluid is improved due to the inhibition of particle movement in the gel. The nanofluid gel is produced by using a gelling agent which is either coated on the nanoparticles prior to dispersion in the base fluid or directly introduced in the base fluid.
