摘要: A system unit has at least a first network identity and a second network identity for communicating with a network, and an indication of which of the network identities was effective on the most recent complete initialization of the system unit. On a subsequent initialization of the system unit, for example after moving the system unit, the effective network identity is changed. The indication is reset to the effective network identity if initialization completes. A system unit can thus be taken out of service and then restarted with a different identity. This enables the system unit reliably to check information from the network without fear of conflict with its previous network identity. The system unit can be a service processor that is operable to allocate network identities to further units (e.g. on a shelf on which the service processor resides). The service processor can thus check on initialization that network identities that it is to allocate are not know already on the network, for example if the service processor had already allocated those identities to system units at a location from which it had been moved, to avoid conflicts occurring.

摘要: A computing system comprises multiple domains, each having an independent boot process. This boot process involves the selection of one boot option from a list of potentially multiple boot options available to the domain. The apparatus further comprises a centralized configuration utility, and a boot controller within each domain. The boot controller supplies said configuration utility with the list of boot options available to that domain. The configuration utility allows a user to specify en bloc the boot option for multiple domains. This information is then passed back to the boot controllers of the respective domains, which then boot in accordance with the boot option specified by said configuration utility.

摘要: A modular computer system (e.g., a server blade system) includes a carrier (e.g., a rack mountable shelf) carrying a plurality of removably mountable information processing modules (e.g., server blades). Each information processing module can include a processor operable to provide information processing functions and a service controller operable to provide monitoring and system management functions. The carrier and the information processing modules can be interconnected by separate information and service management paths so that system management signals can be communicated independently of information signals. A combined switch and service processor module can be provided in the carrier. The switch and the service processor can be interconnected via a communications link for controlled information passage between a management network and the information processing modules via an information path.

摘要: Apparatus representing a computer system or such-like is disclosed that includes a hierarchy of field replaceable units (FRUs). Each FRU in the hierarchy has a type, and may have a number of subsidiary FRUs. A FRU stores data indicative of at least the number and type of any subsidiary FRUs that may be immediately below it in the hierarchy, as well as data concerning the identity of the FRU itself. The apparatus has a utility to allow access and consolidation at a single location of all the FRU data stored in the hierarchy. In one embodiment, this utility is provided in the form of a configuration application running on a service processor of the apparatus.

摘要: A processing unit, for example a computer server, that is connectable to a data communications network, has a device reader for reading a supplied network identity from a portable storage device such as a smart card or the like. The processing unit then uses the supplied network identity from the portable storage device for communicating via the data communications network. The processing unit monitors the continued presence of the portable storage device. In the event that the processing unit detects that the portable storage device has been removed from the device reader, it signals a fault state. The processing unit can be arranged to power itself down where a portable storage device having same network identity is not returned in the device reader within a predetermined time.

摘要: A sealing glass and a sealing glass paste for sealing the face plate and funnel portion of a color television tube wherein PbO-containing sealing glass frit contains from an effective amount of a powder, such as Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4 powder, which powder prevents the reduction of PbO to Pb metal during the sealing process, which reduction would otherwise result in a dielectric breakdown in the seal. A sealing glass paste consisting essentially of a PbO-B.sub.2 O.sub.3 -ZnO sealing glass frit and containing an effective amount of said powder, based upon the weight of the frit, together with hydroxypropyl cellulose binder for the frit and a solvent for the binder. A method for sealing the face plate of a color television tube to its funnel portion with a PbO-containing solder glass wherein the reduction of PbO to metallic lead during the sealing step is obviated by the addition of a sufficient amount of Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4 or BaO.sub.2 powder in the solder glass and paste made therewith, which Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4 or BaO.sub.2 is slowly reduced to a lower oxide in a reducing atmosphere during the sealing of the television tube components. A method for increasing the dielectric properties of a PbO-containing sealing glass paste and the devitrified seal made therefrom, which seals the face plate to the funnel of a color television tube, to a value greater than that provided by the solder glass, per se, by incorporating in the solder glass and the solder glass paste made therefrom a small but sufficient amount of Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4 or BaO.sub.2 to accomplish this purpose. A vehicle for a glass frit comprises hydroxypropyl cellulose as a binder and a solvent for said binder.

摘要: Sealing glass paste for sealing the face plate and funnel portion of a color television tube wherein PbO-containing sealing glass frit contains from at least 0.1 to 1.5% by weight of Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4 powder, which powder prevents the reduction of PbO to Pb metal during the sealing process, which reduction would otherwise result in a dielectric breakdown in the seal. A sealing glass paste consisting essentially of a PbO--B.sub.2 O.sub.3 --ZnO sealing glass frit and containing from at least 0.1 to 1.5% by weight of Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4 powder, based upon the weight of the frit, together with hydroxypropyl cellulose binder for the frit and a solvent for the binder.
