The device has an elongated body having a proximal end and a distal end sized to be positioned within a lumen of the body vessel; at least one closure composition precursor lumen within the elongated body having a entrance port adjacent the proximal end of the elongated body through which one or more fluent closure composition precursors can be delivered into the closure composition precursor lumen and an exit port adjacent the distal end of the elongated body through which the one or more fluent closure composition precursors can be delivered outside the vessel adjacent the vessel puncture; and a microwave antenna for delivering microwave energy adjacent the distal end of the elongated body to the fluent closure compound precursor. The microwave antenna according to this embodiment is preferably incorporated onto the elongated body adjacent the body distal end. Alternatively, the device can include a guidewire lumen and a guidewire which includes a microwave antenna.

More particularly, the invention relates to an organic polymeric optical fiber having a polysiloxane cladding for long term in vivo use in the tissue of a living mammal, preferably a human being. In addition to compatibility in live tissue and body fluids, such a fiber must be capable of repeatedly being deformed in a small bend radius without losing the ability to transmit light. The clad optical fibers are used to measure levels of components (e.g., pH, oxygen, carbon dioxide) in living, moving tissue such as the heart or lungs.

Epoxides of the invention are those of the formula ##STR1## wherein J is H or F, the same in each occurrence; Q is a valence bond or --O--, the same in each occurrence; and Y is H or F, independently. When cured, these epoxides are superior in moisture resistance, flame retardance, and thermal stability to the corresponding non-fluorinated, prior art epoxides. The epoxides of the preceding formula may be made by first reacting an allylic halide of the formula CJ.sub.2 .dbd.CJ--CJ.sub.2 --X, wherein X is halogen, with a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein Z is MO, hal.Mg or Ag; M is an alkali metal; and hal=Br or I; then if Y is to be F, converting the --CH group to a --CF group, and finally, oxidizing the CJ.sub.2 .dbd.CJ group to a ##STR3## group.

2-(3H)-benzoxazolone and certain other benzo-N-heterocycles, as such or as their adduction products with epoxides, may be employed as organo-soluble, latent phenolic curing agents for epoxy resins. The phenolic hydroxyls are provided by rearrangement of the adduction products. Excellent shelf lives, pot lives, gel times and physical properties result.
