Abstract:
A fuel additive is the reaction product of an intermediate reaction product of a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride and an aminosalicylic acid, preferably a 4-aminosalicylic acid. The intermediate is reacted with an aldehyde, preferably formaldehyde and an alkylenepolyamine preferably tetraethylenepentamine. The reaction product is post reacted with a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride which can be the same or different as the hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride of the intermediate. The additive has dispersant and detergent properties and is effective in liquid hydrocarbon or liquid oxygenated fuels or mixtures of the said fuels.
Abstract:
An ashless detergent additive having antioxidant and metal surface protection properties for lubricants or fuels is made from a Mannich condensation reaction between a hydrocarbylbissuccinimide, such as a dimer of a polyisobutenylsuccinimide (derived from tetraethylenepentamine), an aldehyde, such as formaldehyde, and a heteroatom substituted benzoic acid such as salicylic acid, thiosalicylic acid or aminosalicylic acid.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses superior fuel and lubricant additives prepared by the acylation of alkyl or alkenyl succinimides with the polyether half-esters of dicarboxylic acids. The polyether half-esters of dicarboxylic acids are grafted onto the polyamine moiety of alkyl or alkenyl succinimides by reacting the succinimide and the half-ester of the dicarboxylic acid under amidation conditions to form an amide group with an amino group of the polyamine. The process is carried out by first reacting a monofunctional polyalkylene ether with a dicarboxylic acid to produce a half-ester of the dicarboxylic acid. This product is then reacted with an alkyl or alkenyl succinimide polyamine ashless dispersant to product a multifunctional hydrocarbon fuel or lubricant additive that exhibits augmented dispersant properties.
Abstract:
Reaction products in which polyethers are connected to hydroxyalkylated polyamines using diisocyanates have been found to be effective ashless dispersants and detergents for various lubricants and fuels.
Abstract:
Reaction products in which polyethers are grown from substituted phenol-containing mannich bases have been found to be effective ashless dispersants and detergents for fuels and lubricants.
Abstract:
Additives comprising the reaction products of aminodiols and the products of benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride and aminoalcohols and/or amines with long-chain hydrocarbyl groups attached improve the low-temperature properties of distillate fuels.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is the reaction product of 5-amino-2-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole with hydrocarbyl epoxides. The resulting reaction product finds use as an additive in lubricating oil compositions.
Abstract:
Reaction products of sulfurized olefins, e.g., isobutylene with a dialkyl hydrogen phosphite and an alkyl primary amine provide antiwear characteristics and improved retention of copper corrosion protection for lubricant compositions when incorporated therein.
