摘要: Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to a fiber-optically enabled medical device system including an optical fiber and one or more conductive elements. The optical fiber is configured to determine a shape of the medical device as the device negotiates tortuous vascular pathways. The one or more conductive elements can be configured to transmit electrical signals there along between the distal tip and a console coupled to a proximal end of the medical device. The electrical signals can determine a location of a tip of the medical device, detect an electrophysiological signal at a distal tip, and/or provide electro-stimulation or ablation energy to the distal tip of the medical device. The one or more conductive elements can be a wire extending linearly or helically about the optical fiber, or can be a tube, or tube section, extending annularly about the optical fiber, or combinations thereof.

摘要: Disclosed herein are medical systems and devices that include an elongate probe configured for insertion into a patient and/or a catheter. The elongate probe includes an optical fiber and a number of electrical conductors extending along the elongate probe. The probe further includes a tip electrode and a number of band electrodes for obtaining an ECG signal and a bioimpedance, respectively. The optical fiber is configured for shape sensing and to detect strain and fluctuations of the probe. A system includes the probe, and a logic of the system is configured to determine a location of the probe along a vasculature and further determine a location of a catheter with respect to the probe via optical signals and/or electrical signals.

摘要: Strain-sensing systems, indwelling medical devices, and methods for determining one or more physical attributes are disclosed. A strain-sensing system can include, for example, an indwelling medical device, an optical interrogator, and a console. The medical device can include an optical-fiber probe having fiber Bragg grating (“FBG”) sensors. The optical interrogator can be configured to send input optical signals into the optical-fiber probe and receive FBG sensor-reflected optical signals therefrom. The console can include one or more processors, memory, and executable instructions that cause the console to perform a set of operations including: receiving the FBG sensor-reflected optical signals from the optical interrogator; converting the FBG sensor-reflected optical signals into converted electrical signals with optical signal-converter logic; and determining in a real-time determination the one-or-more physical attributes associated with a heart, lungs, or both the heart and lungs from at least the converted electrical signals with physical attribute-determination logic.

摘要: An optical connector cleaning device configured to couple with and perform an optical cleaning and a disinfection of an optical connector of a medical device. The cleaning device includes a holding section and a cleaning section extending away from the holding section, the cleaning section extendable through a sterile barrier. A cleaning ribbon and a disinfecting ribbon, having a disinfectant absorbed therein, extend across a tip of the cleaning device so as to be sandwiched between the tip and the optical connector. An optical assessment system of the device evaluates optical transmission of the optical connector. Manipulation of actuators causes sliding displacement of the cleaning ribbon and the disinfecting ribbon across a tip of the cleaning device. Replaceable cartridges store unused and used portions of the cleaning ribbon and a disinfecting ribbon.

摘要: An ultrasound-imaging system includes an ultrasound probe and a console. The console includes one or more processors and a non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon logic, when executed by the one or more processors, causes operations that can include: receiving and processing the electrical signals to generate the ultrasound image, receiving secondary data from the secondary data collection module, wherein the secondary data is data other than the electrical signals corresponding to reflected ultrasound signals, and providing a notification to administrator that includes the secondary data.

摘要: Optical connection systems including electrical-and-optical connection systems and methods thereof are disclosed. An electrical-and-optical connection system can include an extension tube having a plug and a relay module having a receptacle. The plug can be formed of a metal piece around electrical wires, which, in turn, are around optical-fiber cores that extend along a length of the extension tube. The plug can be configured to pierce through at least a sterile barrier. The relay module can include electrical wires and optical-fiber cores within a housing of the relay module, as well as a receptacle disposed in the housing. The receptacle can be configured to simultaneously accept insertion of the plug therein and establish both electrical and optical connections between the plug and the receptacle from a sterile field to a non-sterile field set up by the sterile barrier. Shape-sensing systems including the optical connection systems are also disclosed.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a medical device system and method for detecting placement of a medical device having an elongate probe for insertion within a patient body. The system can determine a live 3D shape of the elongate probe via shape sensing of an optical fiber extending along the elongate probe during insertion. The system can capture a reference shape of the live 3D shape and define a pathway in front of the live 3D shape. A user can be notified when the live 3D shape exceeds a buffer zone of the pathway. A current reference shape can be compared with a preceding reference frame to assess a validity of the current reference frame.

The logic of the ultrasound imaging device, upon execution by the processor, can causes an alteration of content displayed on the display screen in accordance of with ultrasound probe movement-related data. The ultrasound imaging device can include a light source configured to provide incident light to the optical fiber cable, the optical fiber cable including a plurality of reflective gratings disposed along a length thereof. Each of the plurality of reflective gratings can be configured to reflect light with different specific spectral widths to provide distributed measurements in accordance with strain applied to the optical fiber cable. The ultrasound imaging device can obtain the ultrasound probe movement-related data through an optical fiber.

The first sensing region is located distal the second sensing region, and the first optical fiber cores extend along the second sensing region. Also disclosed is a console for providing an incident light signal to the multi-core optical fiber instrument, receiving reflected light signals from the sensors, and determining a parameter experienced by instrument in accordance with the reflected light signals.
