摘要: A railcar draft gear housing formed from an austempered ductile iron casting having an original shape and including an open end, a closed end, and wall structure axially extending between the housing's ends. The wall structure of the housing defines an axial section between and spaced from the ends. The axial section of the wall structure is configured to withstand impact energy imparted to the housing in excess of 81,000 inch pounds while retaining and exhibiting substantially linear elasticity wherein the resultant ratio of stress to energy input remains substantially constant thereby allowing for flexible distortion of the housing in a manner promoting enhanced energy damping characteristics while allowing the casting to return to the original shape after the impact energy is released threrefrom.

摘要: A liquid ink printer, depositing liquid ink to form an image, on a recording medium, including a printing dimension defining a maximum print area to receive the liquid ink, moving along a recording medium path. The printer includes a printbar, including a plurality of nozzles, aligned substantially perpendicular to the recording medium path, to deposit a swath of ink on the recording medium during movement of the recording medium along the recording medium path, a recording medium transport, disposed adjacent the plurality of nozzles, to move the recording medium along the recording medium path, and an encoder system, spaced from the recording medium transport, to determine the position of the recording medium transport with respect to the array of nozzles. The printbar includes a mounting substrate to mount a plurality of printhead dies including the nozzles and an optical reader of the encoder system. The nozzles and optical reader are aligned and the encoder system accurately determines the position of a belt of the recording medium transport with respect to the nozzles.

摘要: A liquid ink printer forming images on a recording medium including a liquid ink printhead movable between a printing position and a maintenance position and a maintenance arrangement, located at the maintenance position, including a driver, a first mechanism, and a second mechanism. The driver is coupled to the first mechanism and to the second mechanism and moves in a first direction to actuate the first mechanism and in a second direction to actuate the second mechanism. The driver includes a stepper motor having a single shaft coupled to the first mechanism and to the second mechanism through a unidirectional clutch. The first mechanism, such as a cam bank or rotary valve, is actuated by the stepper motor moving in a first direction, and the second mechanism, such as a vacuum pump is actuated by the stepper motor moving in a second direction.

摘要: A method for removing kogation deposits or other materials from the heater element of a thermal ink jet printer includes selecting a pulse voltage, pulse width and number of pulses, and apply the selected number of pulses at the selected pulse voltage and pulse width to the heater element to disrupt the kogation deposits. An apparatus for removing kogation deposits or other materials from the heater elements of a thermal ink jet printer includes a controller and a voltage supply, such that the voltage supply is controlled by the controller to supply a selected number of pulses at a selected pulse voltage and a selected pulse width to the heater elements.

摘要: A pagewidth ink jet printer has a fixed, pagewidth printhead with a linear array of nozzles extending along its length and a movable cleaning and priming station adapted for movement parallel to and along the array of printhead nozzles. The cleaning and priming station has a vacuum conduit connected to a vacuum source and has an open end which confronts at least one nozzle at the nozzle array. The array of nozzles reside in a planar printhead nozzle face which has a ledge spaced from and parallel to the linear array of nozzles. The ledge extends from one edge of the nozzle face, and has a planar surface parallel to the nozzle face and a predetermined distance therefrom. The cleaning and priming station is slidingly moved in contact with the ledge surface, so that the vacuum conduit open end is maintained fixed distance from the nozzle face. The station may be moved to selected nozzles and the vacuum from the vacuum source may be varied for cleaning or priming.

摘要: A sheet transport for transporting sheets across a surface which includes an elongated member supported for transverse movement across the surface. The transport further includes a fibrous material which comprises a base substrate portion carried by the member and a plurality of fibers extending from the base substrate so that the extending fibers form a sheet engaging area with the surface. Apparatus for moving the member across the surface is also provided so that a sheet in the sheet engaging area is translated in a process direction across the surface when the member is translated.

摘要: A method of producing useful hollow bodies and the resulting products. The hollow bodies are formed by providing a block of thermoplastic elastomer material having a selected initial axial height and providing the block with a selected axial core opening. An axial force is applied to said block sufficient to compress said block a substantial extent to reduce the free height of the block and expand the core opening transversely outwardly to define sidewalls for the hollow body. The axial force is removed, and the hollow body is prepared for use as a compression spring or other useful device.
