    摘要: A mathod of manufacturing a piezoelectric/electrostrictive divice includes an additional member that is provided at a border between an inner wall surface of a thin plate section formed by a long ceramic plate and a side surface (cutout surface) formed by a short ceramic plate. Assuming that a surface of the additional member forms a curve C as viewed in vertical cross section, the curve C is a free curve having one inflection point. The additional member has a portion C2 which extends along the inner wall surface of the thin plate section with its surface extending substantially in parallel toward the border, and a curved portion C3 which is disposed at a part corresponding to the border.

    摘要: A piezoelectric/electrostrictive device 10 includes a stationary portion 11; a thin-plate portion 12 supported by the stationary portion; and a piezoelectric/electrostrictive element 14 including a plurality of electrodes and a plurality of piezoelectric/electrostrictive layers which are laminated alternately. The piezoelectric/electrostrictive device 10 is manufactured as follows: firstly, a piezoelectric/electrostrictive laminate composed of laminar electrodes and piezoelectric/electrostrictive layers is formed on the surface of a thin-plate body which is to become the thin-plate portion 12; subsequently, the thin-plate body and the piezoelectric/electrostrictive laminate are cut; and the resultant cut surface (lateral end surface) is finished through polishing, so as to attain an arithmetic average surface roughness of 0.05 μm or less. This finishing process enables occurrence of uniform residual strain in the vicinity of the lateral end surface, as well as elimination of microcracks generated in the vicinity of the lateral end surface through the above cutting, thereby effectively preventing particle separation from the lateral end surface.

    摘要: The present invention provides a piezo-electric/electrostrictive device including a pair of thin plate sections in an opposed relation to each other, a fixing section for supporting the thin plate sections, and at least one pair of piezo-electric/electrostrictive elements are provided to the pair of thin plate sections. The thin plate sections include movable sections having end surfaces in an opposed relation. Recesses between the thin plate sections are filled with a filler are formed at the boundaries between the thin plate sections, and the fixing section and the movable sections. As a result, the impact resistance of the device is enhanced. The present invention also relates to a method for producing such a device.

    摘要: A vehicular occupant restraint system is provided with an airbag and an inflator. A front end of the folded airbag is housed within a front pillar garnish covering a side face on the occupant compartment side of a front pillar, and impact absorbing ribs are formed on the inner face of the front pillar garnish only in a section(s) that receives little deformation when the airbag is deployed. Since the front pillar garnish can be easily flexed when the air bag is deployed, there is neither inhibition to the smooth deployment of the airbag nor splitting and scattering of a part of the front pillar garnish. Moreover, since the impact absorbing ribs are formed on the front pillar garnish in the section(s) that receives little deformation, the impact of a secondary collision to an occupant can be absorbed effectively by the impact absorbing ribs.
