摘要: A subscriber loop test apparatus relates to the testing of a subscriber loop by the use of a touchtone telephone. The touchstone buttons on a telephone provide Dual-Tone, Multiple Frequencies for each key pressed. For example, referring to FIG. 1, pressing the ‘3’ key causes tones at 697 and 1477 Hz to be sent across the telephone line. Pressing a sequence of keys provides discrete coverage of the frequency band from 697 to 1477 Hz, through the use of the touchtone telephone. The frequency band from 697 to 1477 Hz can be characterized in this fashion. Information about the line: loop loss (loop length), presence of bridge taps (i.e., excessively long bridge taps in particular) or loading coils, and the presence of Digital Loop Carriers (DLCs), et cetera. The use of the switch-hook flash provides the ability to determine the channel (impulse) response of the loop, including any noise and hum that may be on the loop due to imbalance or coupled interference.

摘要: Near-end crosstalk between identical discrete multi-tone modems is reduced by aligning the frames of all modems at a central office to each other, aligning the frames transmitted by subscribers' modems with the frames received by those modems, and including a cyclic prefix between the central office and the most distant subscriber to be served. By making adjacent DMT carrier frequencies be orthogonal to each other, the aforementioned modifications will reduce both Near End Cross-Talk and Leakage-Excited Cross-Talk. These benefits apply to modems at both the central office and subscriber ends of the communication path.

摘要: A method of identifying and communicating the existence of Intermittent nodes in a communication network with a mixed TDMA/CSMA-CD MAC frame format, and of preventing these nodes from unnecessarily debasing existing voice channel connections. Information pertaining to intermittent nodes is included in a database for an extended operational duration and used as primary information in control of the creation of any newly requested voice channels. Intermittent nodes are treated for the purpose of assigning voice channels as existing permanent nodes, whether currently visible or not. Newly revealed intermittent nodes are added to the database through intermediate nodes. This invention increases reliability and quality of voice communications during noise/impedance level changes of the network that may render one or more nodes not visible.

摘要: Methods, systems, and products authenticate users for access to devices, applications, and services. Skills of a user are learned over time, such that an electronic model of random subject matter may be generated. The user is prompted to interpret the random subject matter, such as with a drawing, physical arrangement, or performance. The user's interpretation is then compared to the electronic model of the random subject matter. If the user is truly who they purport to be, their interpretation will match the electronic model, thus authenticating the user. If interpretation fails to match the electronic model, authentication may be denied.

摘要: A secondary Ethernet-like wireless communication system overlapped by a dominant Ethernet-like wireless communication system, and including radio access and communication for activation, association, and authentication of a wireless device in the secondary Ethernet-like wireless communication system. An automated private service activation (APSA) port is used for accepting access and communication requests of a wireless device seeking activation, association and authentication in the secondary Ethernet-like wireless communication system. The APSA port provides an access and communication channel for radiating signals at a level exceeding a signal level of the access and communication channel only within limited spatial constraints. In addition the APSA port provides space for receiving the wireless device for activation and communication in the secondary Ethernet-like wireless communication system.
