摘要: A system and method for providing faster tuning into a chosen program in a time-sliced multicast and/or broadcast transmission environment. Multimedia data of the same source material but of different transmission and presentation characteristics are coded and compressed. According to various embodiments, simulcast streams of a program are time-sliced, placed maximally apart from each other in terms of transmission time, and sent over the channel.

摘要: A system and method of hierarchical modulation in scalable media is provided, where the HP bits of a constellation pattern of a hierarchical modulation mode are allocated for an entire base layer of a scalable stream and at least some data from a fine-granular scalable (FGS) enhancement layer. The LP bits of the constellation pattern can be used for the remaining data of the FGS layer. Concatenation of the FGS data in the HP bits and in the LP bits provides a valid FGS layer. Therefore, problems associated with redundant data padding resulting in inefficient resource utilization, increased complexity related to accurate bitrate control algorithms, time-varying picture quality, and maintaining identical bitrate shares between base and enhancement layers and HP and LP bits, are avoided.

摘要: A system and method for identifying when an indicated or predetermined media transcoding process results in a media stream that is compliant with an indicated interoperability point. Various embodiments allow for the encoding, storage, transcoding, and transmission of a media stream, for which a transcoding process is identified and the resulting media stream of the transcoding process is associated with at least one property. The signaling of the property or properties, and an identification of the transcoding process in one embodiment, may be included in the media bitstream, in a file format container containing the media bitstream, or in a transmission or control protocol for transmission or control of the media bitstream.

摘要: There is disclosed a method and device of statistical interleaving of at least two digital video sequences each comprising a plurality of coded pictures to be reproduced by a decoder, wherein the two digital video sequences form a single video stream and are destined for being successively reproduced in time, comprising statistical multiplexing a first digital video sequence with a second digital video sequence, wherein the pictures of the second digital video sequence are associated with timing information, which prevents a decoder from reproducing the pictures; transmitting the digital video sequences in an interleaved manner in accordance with a result of the statistical multiplexing to the decoder; and once the second digital video sequence is to be reproduced by decoder receiving the stream: transmitting dummy pictures, which are coded to refer to one or more pictures of the second video sequence transmitted in advance to the decoder.

摘要: A real-time program transmission system and method may receive a signal from a content source, and generate two different data streams. One stream may be of a higher quality than the other. The two streams may then be inserted into time slice frames, such that a single frame carries two portions of data: one corresponding to a first time segment in the program, and a second corresponding to a different time segment in the program. A receiving mobile terminal may buffer the received data, and may use the lower quality data as a backup in the event of a transmission error in the higher quality data.
