摘要: Disclosed is a gas sensor for controlling a concentration of oxygen and/or measuring NOx by allowing a current to flow through an ion-conductive member for conducting oxygen ion, by the aid of a current supply circuit, wherein the current, which is outputted from the current supply circuit, has a pulse waveform (current signal) having a constant crest value, and the current supply circuit comprises a rectangular wave-generating circuit for controlling a frequency of the current signal on the basis of an electromotive force generated in the ion-conductive member to which the current signal is supplied. Accordingly, it is possible to highly accurately measure the predetermined gas component while scarcely being affected by the electric noise or the like.

摘要: One of a pair of temperature sensor sections in a combustible gas sensor is covered with porous oxidizing catalytic layers (23, 24) for oxidizing a combustible gas, and the other is not covered with the oxidizing catalyst layers. The temperature sensor sections each have temperature sensitive portions (13, 14) made of a dense ceramic material, resistors (21, 22) buried therein and having a positive resistance temperature coefficient, current leads (31, 32, 41, 42) and voltage leads (33, 34, 43, 44). A method for detecting the deterioration of a catalyst which intends to eliminate the combustible gas, by the use of this combustible gas sensor is further disclosed. When a difference between temperatures of the pair of resistors or a difference between powers fed to the pair of resistors is in excess of a predetermined value, it is judged that the catalyst has been deteriorated.

摘要: An NOx removal system has a combustion apparatus for applying energy to a load based on a predetermined combustion control process, an NOx remover for reacting NOx emitted from the combustion apparatus with NH3 to produce N2 and H2O, an NH3 and/or urea introducing apparatus connected upstream of the NOx remover, for introducing NH3 and/or urea into a gas passage extending from the combustion apparatus to the NOx remover, and sensor, which is also sensitive connected downstream of the NOx remover, for generating a detected signal based on NH3 and NOx contained in a gas discharged from the NOx remover. A controller controls a rate at which NH3 and/or urea is introduced into the gas passage by the NH3 and/or urea introducing apparatus while repeatedly increasing and reducing the rate, in response to the detected signal generated by the NOx sensor. The NOx removal system, which employs NH3 and/or urea as a reducing agent, is capable of accurately controlling the rate at which NH3 and/or urea is introduced into the gas passage through a simple arrangement, and minimizing the discharge of NH3 and NOx.

摘要: In a method of controlling an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine including a nitrogen oxide reducing catalyst capable of adsorbing nitrogen oxide under a lean atmosphere and a nitrogen oxide sensor disposed downstream of the nitrogen oxide reducing catalyst, the nitrogen oxide reducing catalyst and the nitrogen oxide sensor are disposed in the exhaust gas system operated mainly under a lean condition, respectively. An output value of the nitrogen oxide sensor is compared with a predetermined value, and an operation condition of the internal combustion engine is temporarily changed into a stoichiometric condition or a rich condition, or a fuel is injected upstream of the nitrogen oxide reducing catalyst, so that the nitrogen oxide adsorbed to the nitrogen oxide reducing catalyst is detached or decomposed, and again the internal combustion engine is operated under the lean condition. Deterioration of the catalyst is determined based on Nox amount which is calculated from the sensor output, exhaust has flow amount and vehicle running distance.

摘要: A gas sensor comprises a main pumping cell for pumping-processing oxygen contained in a first chamber, a feedback control system for comparing a partial pressure of oxygen in the first chamber with a first reference value to control the main pumping cell so that the partial pressure of oxygen has a predetermined value at which NO is not decomposable, an auxiliary pumping cell for pumping-processing oxygen in the second chamber, and a measuring pumping cell for pumping-processing oxygen produced by decomposition of NOx. The gas sensor further comprises a correcting control system for correcting and controlling the feedback control system on the basis of a difference between a second reference value and a value of a pumping current flowing through the auxiliary pumping cell to give a constant oxygen concentration in the second chamber, and a self-diagnosis unit for comparing the value of the pumping current with a prescribed range and judging whether or not any trouble occurs, on the basis of an obtained result of comparison. Accordingly, it is possible to provide the gas sensor having a self-diagnosis function capable of quickly and reliably detecting whether or not any trouble occurs.

摘要: A method for controlling an engine exhaust gas system includes the steps of detecting an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas discharged from an internal engine by an oxygen sensor, controlling the exhaust gas to near the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio by a closed-loop control referring to a resultant signal, and leading the exhaust gas to a three-way catalyst to treat nitrogen oxide, hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide. A nitrogen oxide sensor is provided downstream of the three-way catalyst, and a control value of air-fuel ratio by a closed loop control by the oxygen sensor is corrected to set the nitrogen oxide concentration to a predetermined value in accordance with an output of the nitrogen oxide sensor. The deterioration of the three-way catalyst and/or oxygen sensor is detected by comparing a change in control corrected value for the air-fuel ratio of closed loop control referring to an output of the nitrogen oxide sensor with a predetermined value.

摘要: Disclosed is an oxide sensor in which a measuring electrode is arranged at a distance d to satisfy -3t.ltoreq.d.ltoreq.3t for a downstream end of an inner pumping electrode for a first chamber, i.e., the end located on a side of a second diffusion rate-determining section, provided that d represents a distance between the measuring electrode and the downstream end in a positive direction directed from the first chamber to a second chamber, and t represents a height of the first chamber. A partial pressure of oxygen in the first chamber is measured by using the measuring electrode. A main pumping cell is subjected to feedback control on the basis of a measured value so that the partial pressure of oxygen in the first chamber is controlled. After that, a measurement gas is introduced into the second chamber. Oxides contained in the measurement gas are decomposed by the aid of a detecting electrode or a catalyst. A partial pressure of oxygen produced by the decomposition is measured to determine the concentration of the oxides. Accordingly, it is possible to measure the oxides contained in the measurement gas with an extremely high degree of accuracy. Moreover, the obtainable oxide sensor is compact and inexpensive.
