Abstract:
Aspects of the methods and apparatus relate to exploiting the spectrum of a high power base station cell to provide higher capacity in a wireless communication system. Generally, a small cell with multi-carrier support may detect an absence of high power base station cell coverage or absence of high power base station cell users and may harness the high power base station cell carrier spectrum to provide higher data download rates and/or serve more mobility users. Specifically, aspects of the methods and apparatus include transmitting a first signal on a first carrier from a first access point and determining a current ability of a second access point on a second carrier. Thereafter, aspects of the methods and apparatus include transmitting a second signal on the second carrier from the first access point according to the determined current ability of the second access point.
Abstract:
A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in connection with classifying devices that communicate with a femto node for providing services thereto. In one example, a node is equipped to monitor and/or receive one or more parameters communicated by a device, assign a classification to the device related to a frequency of using the femto node based in part on the one or more parameters. In an aspect, the node is equipped to provide services to the device based on the classification. In another aspect, the node is equipped to provide the classification to one or more femto nodes, including the femto node, for providing services to the device.
Abstract:
The present disclosure presents a method and an apparatus for backhaul management at a small cell base station. For example, the method may include receiving an indication from a radio resource management (RRM) framework of a small cell base station, wherein the indication received from the RRM framework is related to a coverage problem at a user equipment (UE), and wherein the UE is in communication with the small cell, and modifying a backhaul estimation mechanism at the small cell base station for the UE based on the indication received from the RRM framework of the small cell base station. As such, backhaul management at a small cell base station may be achieved.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate providing access point measurements to restricted access points. Restricted access points can lessen restrictions to allow devices to register with the restricted access point for providing measurements thereto. Additionally or alternatively, access point measurements can be provided to a minimization of drive tests (MDT) server for providing to the restricted access points. Thus, restricted access points can obtain the access point measurements for performing enhanced interference management or other functionality based at least in part on the measurements.
Abstract:
According to some wireless network standards the size of a neighbor cell list is restricted to a maximum size. The limited size of a neighbor cell list may not reflect the realities of a wireless network deployment, especially for deployments including numerous femto cells clustered in close proximity. Accordingly, as the concentration of macro cells and/or femto cells in an area increases, there lies a challenge to identify and communicate neighbor lists to user devices that reflect the arrangement of a particular portion of the deployment and the needs of the user devices. Various systems, methods and apparatus described herein are configured to provide a user device or a group of user devices a neighbor cell list that includes neighbor cell identifiers chosen from a candidate list.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods of maintaining a cell database for wireless communications include discovering a second cell to which a user equipment may reselect. In an aspect, the user equipment may be currently served by a first cell and the second cell is a closed subscriber group cell. Further, aspects include querying a fingerprinting database to determine whether the second cell was previously recorded in the fingerprinting database. Upon determining that the second cell was not previously recorded, further aspects include adding the second cell to the fingerprinting database. Adding the second cell may comprise indicating an association between the first cell and the second cell in the fingerprinting database.
Abstract:
A system performs an over-the-air transmission from a source small cell to a destination small cell. A channel for the over-the-air transmission is selected based on information to be sent. The system determines an information attribute for an over-the-air transmission from the source small cell to the destination small cell. The system selects an over-the-air channel, from a set of channels, based on the information attribute. The source small cell sends the over-the-air transmission on the selected over-the-air channel to the destination small cell.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are disclosed for configuring an access mode of a femtocell. The method includes determining whether a target channel is being used by a macrocell. The method includes, in response to the target channel being used by the macrocell, configuring the access mode to a closed access mode. The method includes in response to the target channel not being used by the macrocell, configuring the access mode to an open or hybrid access mode.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for facilitating base station identity discovery in a wireless communications system. This may be achieved, for example, by exchanging with a User Equipment (UE) a message including a Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network Radio Network Temporary Identifier (U-RNTI) of the UE, wherein the U-RNTI comprises an indicator representative of a base station identifier of a Home NodeB (HNB) associated with the UE.
Abstract:
The present disclosure presents methods and apparatuses for improved paging area identifier selection in femto nodes and other low power base stations. In some examples described in the present disclosure, a method is provided for selecting a paging area identifier at a low power base station, which includes determining whether a neighboring high power base station is detectable. Additionally, the method can include observing, where the neighboring high power base station is detectable, a broadcasted paging area identifier of the neighboring high power base station. Furthermore, example methods may include selecting a paging area identifier of the low power base station to be the broadcasted paging area identifier and transmitting the paging area identifier.
