Abstract:
Systems, methods, and receiver devices enable broadcasters with restricted content license areas (e.g., Designated Market Areas (“DMAs”) to distribute content via Over the Top (“OTT”) IP networks. Embodiments enable client reporting and authentication as well as broadcast content encryption. In an embodiment, information from the client may be reported back to the broadcasters, such as a view history/use report. In an embodiment, hand off between DMAs may be enabled. In an embodiment, local advertisement insertion in network content may be enabled. Embodiments may enable Multicast-Broadcast Single Frequency Network (“MBSFN”) operation across DMA boundaries.
Abstract:
Techniques for multiplexing and transmitting multiple data streams are described. Transmission of the multiple data streams occurs in “super-frames”. Each super-frame has a predetermined time duration and is further divided into multiple (e.g., four) frames. Each data block for each data stream is outer encoded to generate a corresponding code block. Each code block is partitioned into multiple subblocks, and each data packet in each code block is inner encoded and modulated to generate modulation symbols for the packet. The multiple subblocks for each code block are transmitted in the multiple frames of the same super-frame, one subblock per frame. Each data stream is allocated a number of transmission units in each super-frame and is assigned specific transmission units to achieve efficient packing. A wireless device can select and receive individual data streams.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for smooth transition between broadcast/multicast transmission and unicast transmission. A method for managing unicast and multicast services switching in a multi-band/multi-frequency wireless communications system (WCS) capable of both unicast and multicast signaling includes determining whether an aggregate demand for a content provided via dedicated unicast transmissions exceeds a threshold. The method includes switching transmission of the content from the dedicated unicast transmissions on one frequency to a multicast transmission on a second or more frequencies in response to determining that the aggregate demand exceeds the threshold.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for simultaneously hosting multiple service providers on a network. A method is provided for hosting multiple service providers in a data network. The method includes controlling access to services offered by one or more service providers, and discovering affiliation provisions associated with a device, wherein the affiliation provisions are associated with one or more selected service providers. The method also includes filtering the services according to the affiliation provisions to generate a package database of services offered by the one or more selected service providers, and transmitting the package database to the device.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for position location in a wireless network. In an aspect, a method is provided that includes determining whether a symbol to be transmitted is an active symbol, wherein the symbol comprises a plurality of subcarriers, and encoding identification information on a first portion of subcarriers if it is determined that the symbol is the active symbol. The method also includes encoding idle information on a second portion of subcarriers if it is determined that the symbol in not the active symbol. In an aspect, an apparatus includes detector logic configured to decode a plurality of symbols to determine identification information that identifies a plurality of transmitters, and to determine a plurality of channel estimate associated with the plurality of transmitters. The apparatus also includes position determination logic configured to calculate a device position based on the plurality of transmitters and the plurality of channel estimates.
Abstract:
In one example, a device for retrieving media data includes a memory configured to store an ISO Base Media File Format (ISO BMFF) file including one or more samples including hypertext markup language (HTML) elements defining dynamic web content, and a processing unit implemented in circuitry and configured to: retrieve the ISO BMFF file, extract the HTML elements from the samples of the file, and processing the HTML elements to present the dynamic web content. The HTML elements may include JavaScript elements. The processing unit may also present the dynamic web content in a manner that is synchronized with corresponding media data.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices of various embodiments enable the provision of providing terrestrial broadcast television services over a cellular broadcast system. In various embodiments, a processor of a network element of the cellular broadcast system may parse a terrestrial broadcast television service for one or more information elements. The processor may configure a service description of the cellular broadcast system to include the one or more information elements of the terrestrial broadcast television service. The processor may send the configured service description over the cellular broadcast system to a receiving device to enable the receiving device to receive the terrestrial broadcast television service over the cellular broadcast system.
Abstract:
In one example, a device includes one or more processors configured to receive a first segment of media data, wherein the media data of the first segment comprises a stream access point, receive a second segment of media data, wherein the media data of the second segment lacks a stream access point at the beginning of the second segment, and decode at least a portion of the media data of the second segment relative to at least a portion of data for the first segment. In this manner, the techniques of this disclosure may be used to achieve a Low Latency Live profile for, e.g., dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH).
Abstract:
A device for receiving streaming data includes a broadcast or multicast middleware unit configured to receive the streaming data via a second service and a proxy unit configured to be disposed between the middleware unit and a client application, the proxy unit further configured to receive an indication of whether the streaming data is to be received via a first service or the second service, when the indication indicates that the streaming data is to be received via the first service: disable the middleware unit; and receive the streaming data via the first service, and when the indication indicates that the streaming data is to be received via the second service: activate the middleware unit to receive the streaming data via the second service, wherein the second service comprises at least one of a broadcast service or a multicast service; and receive the streaming data from the middleware unit.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices of the various embodiments enable the use of a broadcast bearer (such as a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (“MBMS”) bearer), unicast bearer, or both a unicast bearer and a broadcast bearer to deliver content to a receiver device. In various embodiments, network policy governing delivery of one or more service or one or more classes of services via a unicast bearer and a broadcast bearer may be provided to one or more devices in the network. In various embodiments, network policy may be applied to the unicast or broadcast delivery selections of a service to control use of a unicast bearer and/or the broadcast bearer to provision the service.
