Abstract: A system and method for semantic segmentation using dense upsampling convolution (DUC) are disclosed. A particular embodiment includes: receiving an input image; producing a feature map from the input image; performing a convolution operation on the feature map and reshape the feature map to produce a label map; dividing the label map into equal subparts, which have the same height and width as the feature map; stacking the subparts of the label map to produce a whole label map; and applying a convolution operation directly between the feature map and the whole label map without inserting extra values in deconvolutional layers to produce a semantic label map.

Abstract: A system includes an autonomous vehicle and a control device associated with the autonomous vehicle. The control device obtains a plurality of sensor data captured by sensors of the autonomous vehicle. The control device determines a plurality of rainfall levels based on the sensor data. Each rainfall level is captured by a different sensor. the control device determines an aggregated rainfall level in a particular time period by combining the plurality of rainfall levels determined during the particular time period. The control device selects a particular object detection algorithm for detecting objects by at least one sensor. The particular object detection algorithm is configured to filter at least a portion of interference caused by the aggregated rainfall level in the sensor data. The control device causes the particular object detection algorithm to be implemented for the at least one sensor.

Abstract: A system and method for occluding contour detection using a fully convolutional neural network is disclosed. Abstract: Techniques are described for managing redundant steering system for a vehicle. A method includes sending a first control command that instructs a first motor coupled to a steering wheel in a steering system to steer a vehicle, receiving, after sending the first control command, a speed of the vehicle, a yaw rate of the vehicle, and a steering position of the steering wheel, determining, based at least on the speed and the yaw rate, an expected range of steering angles that describes values within which the first motor is expected to steer the vehicle based on the first control command, and upon determining that the steering position of a steering wheel is outside the expected range of steering angles, sending a second control command that instructs a second motor coupled to the steering wheel in the steering system to steer the vehicle.
