When a ratio (SP3/SP2) obtainable from an SP3 peak derived from diamond crystals measurable by Raman spectroscopy and an SP2 peak derived from a graphite phase is referred to as an SP3 ratio, an SP3 ratio at a first measuring point with a thickness up to 1 μm extending from an interface of the base material and the diamond layer toward the diamond layer is higher than an SP3 ratio at a second measuring point that is intermediate in a thickness direction of the diamond layer.

摘要: A coated cutting tool includes a substrate of cemented carbide, cermet, ceramics, steel or cubic boron nitride, a multi-layered wear resistant coating and at least two refractory coating layers deposited. The at least two refractory coating layers include a first coating layer and a second coating layer deposited on top of each other. The first coating layer is titanium aluminium nitride or carbonitride Ti1-uAluCvNw, with 0.2≦u≦1.0, 0≦v≦0.25 and 0.7≦w≦1.15 deposited by CVD. The second coating layer is titanium carbonitride TixCyN1-y, with 0.85≦x≦1.1 and 0.4≦y≦0.85, and is deposited on top of the first coating layer by MT-CVD. The second TixCyN1-y coating layer has a columnar grain morphology and the overall fiber texture of the TixCyN1-y coating layer is characterized by a texture coefficient TC (1 1 1)>2.

A ratio of Cκ to a sum of Cα and Cκ: [Cκ/(Cα+Cκ)×100](%) is 0.05 to 7%, where Cα is a total number of peak counts of the α-Al2O3 crystal grains obtained from measurement data of x-ray diffraction for the coating, and Cκ is a total number of peak counts of the κ-Al2O3 crystal grains obtained from the measurement data of the x-ray diffraction for the coating.

摘要: A coating for carbide substrates employs a nanostructured coating in conjunction with a non-nanostructured coating. The nanostructured coating is produced by the addition of a refining agent flow, particular hydrogen chloride gas, during deposition, and may be produced as multiple individual nanostructured layers varying functional materials in a series. The combination of a nanostructured coating and non-nanostructured coating is believed to produce a cutting tool insert that exhibits longer life. Pre-treating the substrate with a mixture of compressed air and abrasive medium prior to coating the substrate and post-treating the coated substrate with a mixture of water and abrasive medium after the coating process is believed to further enhance the wear resistance and usage life of the cutting tool.
