Abstract:
In various embodiments of improvements in a hermetic refrigeration terminal of the type shown and described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,296,275, the flange of the current conducting pin is made non-circular, the pin is necked with a circumferential groove or, in the area in which it passes through the seal, is enlarged, or both, and, when a plurality of openings is provided in the bottom wall of the cup-shaped body of the terminal, a corresponding number of insulating sleeves are joined by a common web or spider, which may be provided with a zone of weakness or may be made flexible as compared with a rigid ceramic web, for example. In still other embodiments, a pin is made up of a core structure of copper or other highly electrically conductive material and a tube, of steel or other material compatible with the seal material, that extends through the reach of the seal, the tube being hermetically secured to the core structure. The flange is either provided on the core structure itself or on the tube.
Abstract:
A shoe for use in a swash-plate type compressor and made of a base material of steel, is slidably disposed between the swash-plate and a steel ball rotatably supported in a recess of a piston and is provided on one side thereof with a lining of copper or a copper alloy for slidably contacting with the sliding surface of the swash-plate and further provided on the other side thereof with a covering or a coating layer of a metal selected out of copper, copper alloys, aluminum, aluminum alloys, zinc, zinc alloys, nickel, chromium, and like metals, each of these metals being a material substantially free from seizure with steel, over a substantially spherical concave surface of the shoe thus permitting the steel ball to slidably rotate in relation thereto.
Abstract:
The cylinder and piston of an injection pump which are severely corroded by molten aluminum or the like are made of a composite sintered body containing two or more of the compounds selected from the group consisting of boron carbide, titanium diboride, zirconium diboride and boron nitride, and having excellent corrosion resistant, wear resistant and heat shock properties and high mechanical strength. One or more of the compounds selected from the group consisting of borides of tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten; carbides of silicon, zirconium, tantalum, vanadium, chromium, tungsten and molybdenum; nitrides of titanium, aluminum, silicon and zirconium; and oxides of aluminum and beryllium may be incorporated.
Abstract:
A fluid pressure device of the axial plunger type including a housing, a rotatable shaft within the housing, a rotatable cylinder block operatively connected to the shaft and having a plurality of axial bores, plungers slidably mounted, respectively, within the bores, a valve plate located in abutment with an end surface of the cylinder block and having inlet and outlet ports which communicate successively with the bores as the cylinder block rotates, a swash plate pivotally supported upon the housing and operatively connected to the plungers for causing the plungers to reciprocate, and plunger shoes positioned between the plungers and the swash plate, the shoes being made of either a high tensile aluminum alloy, titanium, or a high tensile titanium alloy and comprising a slidable bearing surface made of a high load-bearing alloy which is adapted to bear against a planar surface of the swash plate.
Abstract:
A piston ring is made from a copper-beryllium alloy. This material permits the top compression ring of a piston to be moved closer to the piston crown, reducing crevice volume and reducing the tendency for pre-ignition. Ignition timing advance can be realized by installing the rings and letting the ECU advance the timing as the sensors allow, increasing efficiency. Also, shorter pistons and longer connecting rods are possible. The shorter pistons reduces the reciprocated mass in the engine and the longer connecting rods reduce the frictional loss caused by radial forces pushing the piston against the liner. Both reducing volume and tendency for pre-ignition increase engine efficiency.
Abstract:
A swash plate 3 includes a substrate 11 made of an iron-based material, a hard first resin layer 12 provided to coat an end surface of the substrate 11, and a soft second resin layer 13 provided to coat the first resin layer 12. A spiral annular groove 12A is formed in a surface of the first resin layer 12, and the second resin layer 13 is provided to match the sectional shape of the first resin layer 12. With the soft second resin layer 13 on a sliding surface 3A of the swash plate 3, a swash plate 3 having a good fit in an initial stage of sliding can be provided. When the second resin layer 13 partially wears, a protrusion 12 of the first resin layer 12 of the hard resin is exposed to provide good wear resistance and good sliding properties.
Abstract:
The present invention recites a method of fabricating a stator for a downhole motor, the method comprising the steps of providing a stator tube having an interior surface and applying a bonding agent to the interior surface of the stator tube. Additionally, a mandrel is positioned within the stator tube, the mandrel having an outer geometry that is complimentary to a desired inner geometry for the stator. Furthermore, a reinforcing material is introduced into the stator tube to fill space between the mandrel and the interior surface of the stator tube and subsequently solidified to bond the reinforcing material to the interior surface of the stator tube. The mandrel is then removed from the bonded stator tube and reinforcing material such that a stator is fabricated.
Abstract:
A liquid ring pump is provided that includes an annular housing having an inner surface forming a housing cavity. The annular housing is filled with an operating fluid during operation of the pump. The operating fluid forms an eccentric liquid ring in the annular housing during operation of the pump. A rotor is disposed in the housing cavity and includes a plurality of rotor blades. A shaft extends into the annular housing into the housing cavity. The plurality of rotor blades extend radially outward from the shaft toward the inner surface of the annular housing. A liner formed from a corrosion resistant material is disposed substantially flush with at least a portion of the annular housing inner surface opposite a plurality of rotor blade ends.
