Abstract:
The invention provides a quantum dot (QD) modified optical fiber-based biosensor which characterizes matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) enzyme activity at pain signaling sites in the central nervous system (CNS) in vivo. Related systems and peptide biomarker screening methods are also provided.
Abstract:
A method of preparation of M-N—C catalytic material utilizing a sacrificial support approach and using inexpensive and readily available metal precursors and carbendazim (CBDZ) as the carbon source is described.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for determining blood brain barrier (BBB) damage and treating patients who may have suffered from BBB damage due to an ischemic event are provided. The methods and apparatus involve detecting the presence of cleaved occludin fragments in a sample of blood. According to some embodiments, the method further provides determining the degree of BBB damage based on the concentration of occludin fragments in the sample. In further embodiments the present disclosure provides kits for detecting the presence of occludin fragments in a blood sample.
Abstract:
A method and structure for a semiconductor transistor, including various embodiments. In embodiments, a transistor channel can be formed between a semiconductor source and a semiconductor drain, wherein a transistor gate oxide completely surrounds the transistor channel and a transistor gate metal that completely surrounds the transistor gate oxide. Related fabrication processes are presented for similar device embodiments based on a Group III-V semiconductor material and silicon-on-insulator materials.
Abstract:
The present invention provides pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine compounds which inhibit cancer-associated transporter proteins, methods of treating or preventing the onset of a cancer-associated transporter protein-mediated disease by administering such compounds, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds. In one embodiment, the invention provides pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine efflux inhibitors that are selective toward ABCG2 over ABCB1. Compounds and compositions according to the present invention may be used to treat cancer, including drug resistant (DR) and multiple drug resistant (MDR) cancers.
Abstract:
The invention provides a semiconductor light-emitting device having a monolithically integrated master laser, such as a distributed-Bragg-reflector (DBR) master laser, and injection-locked ring slave laser with modulated photon lifetime for optical communication beyond 100 GHz.
Abstract:
A mechanical infusion pump device for injecting medication into a patient's IV, includes an IV reservoir and a syringe communicated to the IV reservoir and having a syringe plunger which is moved in a first direction against a mechanical biasing element by engagement with a manually operable, independently movable filling plunger to fill the syringe with fluid medication. The mechanical biasing element is provided for exerting bias on the syringe plunger in a second syringe-discharging direction to dispense medication from the syringe into the patient's IV when the filling plunger is released. Only a calibrated amount of medicine can be discharged to the patent's IV over time as determined by calibration of the biasing element and a metering element located between the syringe and the patient's IV for a given viscosity of the medication.
Abstract:
A system and methods that generates a physical unclonable function (“PUF”) security key for an integrated circuit (“IC”) through use of equivalent resistance variations in the power distribution system (“PDS”) to mitigate the vulnerability of security keys to threats including cloning, misappropriation and unauthorized use.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide for the facile generation of a stable recombinant fusion polypeptides with intrinsic fluorescent properties. The recombinant antibodies may be suitable for qualitative and/or quantitative immunofluorescence analysis. Generally, the fluorescent polypeptides include a fluorescent domain comprising a C-terminus and an N-terminus; a first antibody domain covalently linked to the C-terminus; and a second antibody domain covalently linked to the N-terminus.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to novel non-invasive diagnostic tools/compounds to image cancers, especially, melanoma, including metastatic melanoma in vivo. The present compounds exhibit enhanced uptake in cancerous cells and tissue and decreased renal uptake in kidney, evidencing favorable pharmacokinetics of compounds of the present invention. The compounds according to the present invention represent an advance in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma, including metastatic melanoma using non-invasive molecular imaging techniques. The novel probes of the present invention are also useful for initiating therapy for melanoma as well as monitor patients' response to chemotherapy treatments and other interventions or therapies used in the treatment of melanoma/metastatic melanoma. Compounds according to the present invention may be used as diagnostic tools for a number of conditions and diseases states as well as therapeutic agents for treating such conditions and disease states.
