Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to methods of treatment of acne in a patient in need thereof, comprising the concomitant once daily topical administration of from about 20 w/w to about 10% w/w of solid particulate benzoyl peroxide (BPO) and from about 0.01% w/w to about 0.1% w/w of solid particulate all trans retinoic acid (ATRA) for a period of up to 3 months, wherein the side-effects of the two actives are medically acceptable and wherein the therapeutic effect of BPO and ATRA is superior to the effect of each active administered alone. The concomitant administration may be carried out by once daily administration to a patient in need thereof of a single composition or of a first composition comprising BPO and a second composition comprising ATRA from a dual chamber dispenser or from two separate dispensers, mixed before applying on the skin of a patient in need thereof for up to 2 weeks, up to 1 month, preferably up to 2 months and more preferably up to 3 months.

The invention relates to process for coating a solid, water-insoluble particulate matter, with a metal oxide comprising: (a) contacting the solid water-insoluble particulate matter with a cationic additive in an aqueous medium to obtain a dispersion of said particulate matter having a positive zeta potential; (b) coating the solid water-insoluble particulate matter by precipitation of a metal oxide salt onto the surface of the particulate matter, forming a metal oxide layer thereon; and (c) aging said coating layer. The invention further relates to coated particulate matter obtained by the process and to compositions comprising solid, water-insoluble particulate matter, coated by a metal oxide layer, the particulate matter being a dermatological active agent or a pesticide. The invention additionally relates to methods of treating a surface condition in a subject using compositions comprising solid, water insoluble dermatologically active agent, coated by a metal oxide layer.

A therapeutic, cosmetic or cosmeceutic composition for topical application, capable of stabilizing an active ingredient and delivering the active ingredient, comprising a plurality of microcapsules having a core-shell structure. The microcapsules have a diameter of approximately 0.1 to 100 micron. The core of each microcapsule includes at least one active ingredient, and is encapsulated within a microcapsular shell. The shell is comprised of at least one inorganic polymer obtained by a sol-gel process, and the shell protects the active ingredient before topical application and is designed to release the active ingredient from the microcapsules following application. The composition is useful in encapsulating active ingredients, such as benzoyl peroxide, that are unstable in other formulation, or are irritating to the skin.

The invention relates to a composition for topical application comprising as an active ingredient a peroxide and a retinoid wherein one of said peroxide and retinoid is in the form of first microparticles comprising a solid particulate matter of the active ingredient coated by a metal oxide layer and the other of said peroxide and retinoid is present in an uncoated free form or in a coated form of the active ingredient. A regimen for the long-term therapeutic treatment of rosacea. The regimen includes topically applying to the skin of a subject in need of said treatment a pharmaceutical composition. The pharmaceutical composition includes about 1% w/w to about 10% w/w benzoyl peroxide as an active ingredient, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient. The benzoyl peroxide is the only active ingredient in said pharmaceutical composition, and the pharmaceutical composition is applied once daily for a period of up to about 40 weeks to about 52 weeks, to achieve, in a group of such subjects, a success rate of about 75% to about 85%.
