摘要: A multi-line tunable laser system, which uses lasers as light sources to illuminate, identify and or quantify one or more targets based on multi-dimensional spectral characteristics of each target. The system includes a plurality of laser sources, each tunable to emit an electromagnetic wave, and at least one tuning controller for tuning and locking each beam of light to a wavelength of required spectral line-width. The system also includes a transmitter for transmitting each beam of light to illuminate one or more targets, and a receiver for receiving light returning from the targets and converting the returned light to electrical signals for identifying and or quantifying the targets. The system further includes N tunable lasers where, M of the N lasers are each tuned to a wavelength that is partially absorbed by the targets, and L of the N (one or more) of the lasers are each tuned to a wavelength that is absorption-free of the targets.

摘要: A telecommunications device includes a portable telephone unit having both wireless communication capability and image capture capability, with a refocusing arrangement that is mechanically driven by operations of telephone components primarily included to enable telephone functions that are independent from camera functions. In one embodiment, the incoming call alerting device, such as the vibrator motor, is used to provide refocusing actuation. In another embodiment, the telephone unit is a “flip phone” and the hinging operations store actuation force for refocusing operations. A ratchet cam may be used in the refocusing arrangement of the image capture capability.

摘要: Methods, systems, and computer programs for encoding images are described. In one aspect, quantized frequency domain vectors are sequentially generated from a sequence of blocks of the image. Each quantized frequency domain vector includes a set of quantized forward transform coefficients that are derived from a respective image block. For each successive quantized frequency domain vector, a current input capacity level of a buffer is determined and the quantized frequency domain vector is modified to increase compressibility when the current input capacity level is determined to be below a prescribed threshold. Modified and unmodified quantized frequency domain vectors are encoded into a sequence of encoded image blocks. The sequence of encoded image blocks is stored in the buffer.

摘要: A method for manufacturing optical components in a three-dimensional photonic crystal lattice. A first resist (9) is coated on a substrate (10) and exposed to an e-beam (11), to produce an imaged area (12). Another resist coating is applied to thicken the resist (13) and an interference exposure (15) is used to image the result. This is developed to form periodic voids (16), which may be filled with a materials having a high refractive index to form a pattern (18 and 12) when the resist (13) is removed.

摘要: A delivery system for endoluminal deployment of a stent inside of a biocompatible graft cover minimizes obstruction of endoluminal fluid flow during deployment. The delivery system includes a stent sheath, a compressed stent underlying the stent sheath, and a graft overlying the stent sheath and releasably retained in a compressed state surrounding the sheath. The graft distal end is attached to the stent at or proximal the stent distal end, and the graft outer surface is exposed to the interior space of the lumen during deployment. The proximal end of the graft may be attached to the stent sheath by a releasable attachment adapted for release during deployment of the stent, or may be otherwise constrained, such as by heat deformation, to remain adjacent the outer circumference of the stent prior to deployment. The releasable attachment may be a suture that is severed by a pusher having a cutter therein. The delivery system may further include an inner core underlying the stent and connected to a tip sheath that overlies the stent distal end. One method of deploying the stent and overlying graft includes advancing the tip sheath to allow the stent distal end to expand, retracting the stent sheath to cause the suture to be severed by the pusher cutter therefore allowing endoluminal fluid to flow between the graft and the sheath, and then completing deployment of the stent to urge the graft against the lumen wall.

摘要: A heat trap assembly for providing a thermal dam within piping associated with water heaters is disclosed. The heat trap includes an elongated housing, a fin and a flap member. The housing includes first and second ends, and an interior opening extending therethrough to define an internal passage. The fin has a multi-sided body and is fixedly inserted into the housing. The flap member has a flexible disk-shaped body with first and second faces, an outer peripheral edge and an aperture disposed inward of the outer peripheral edge. A portion of the fin is inserted through the aperture. The outer peripheral edge is essentially contiguous with an interior wall surface of the housing in the absence of water flow within the internal passage, and is bendable in a direction of flow when water is flowing toward the first face or the second face.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a lighting system including a detector, which is configure to obtain an indicator data of a RF signal. The detector compares the indicator data with a baseline indicator data to generate a difference value and determines a rate of change from the indicator data. The detector also determines a data metric based on the rate of change and the difference value and compares the data metric with a transition threshold to detect one of an occupancy condition or a non-occupancy condition in the area. The lighting system also includes a light source, which is controlled in response to the detected one of the occupancy condition or the non-occupancy condition in the area.
