    摘要: A broadband powerline communication system is disclosed which makes use of knowledge of the spectrum characteristics of a local radio environment in order to improve the performance of the system. A determination is made of the spectrum characteristics of a radio environment in the vicinity of the broadband powerline communication system that is transmitting data on modulated carrier frequencies. Certain ones of the carrier frequencies otherwise used by the broadband powerline communication system may be masked (i.e., not used) by all or part of the broadband powerline system in order to avoid interference based on the determination. In various embodiments, the spectrum characteristics are determined 1) in advance and used to compile a configuration database comprising frequency masking parameters; 2) by monitoring the local radio environment using the transmitter/receiver nodes of the system; or 3) based upon receipt of an indication from a conflicting user that the user is experiencing interference. Various combinations of these spectrum characteristic determination techniques may also be used.

    摘要: A flat screen videophone has a microprocessor card located behind the video display, and an associated keyboard, and can be supported for convenient use in a variety of locations, such as on a wall, under a cabinet or shelf, or on a desk or counter. Wall-mounted versions suspend the keyboard on an adjustable bracket which holds the keyboard in an oblique use position, or in a storage position flat against the wall below the videophone housing. On under-cabinet versions the bracket-mounted keyboard can be swung behind the housing for storage, while the housing can be slid to the rear for storage, or swung upwardly for storage. Desk-top models have one or more cradles for storing the keyboard flat against the housing. The housing can support peripheral devices, such as a printer, a scanner or a fax machine. Other devices may include a microphone, a camera, a motion sensor, a light sensor, a card reader, a telephone handset, and loudspeakers.

    摘要: A remote control handset for cordless communication with a video controller enables enhanced video control and telephonic communication through the handset in an integrated communication network. Interface features on an integrated remote control and phone handset and in graphical screens displayed on the video appliance to facilitate user control of viewing and telephonic functions available in the aforementioned architecture. The user interface comprises controls or push buttons on a control panel incorporated into the handset. The user interface also comprises graphical screens which may be configured by the user to appear as a picture-in-picture with a video broadcast program on the video appliance, or as a full screen on the video appliance. The invention also provides speed dial features in which a number displayed on an advertisement on the video appliance may be dialed by the user upon engagement of a single control button on the handset.

    摘要: A microcell unit, in a cellular telephone system using digital signal processing BSs, is digitally connected to a macrocell, via a metallic link, such as a twisted pair. The microcell includes a plurality of radio channel units (RCU), to provide voice connectivity to mobile subscribers (MS), which are under control of a radio control complex (RCC) located in the macrocell. Several time slots of the macrocell TDM bus, through which the RCC exerts control of the RCUs, are remoted to the microcell thereby enabling control of the RCUs at the microcell location by the RCC of the macrocell. This remoting action is achieved, via a remote time division multiplex (TDM) circuit pack which enables the RCC to communicate with the RCUs as if they were located within the macrocell.

    摘要: A new communication system merges a voice communication with an image communication into a single transmission channel to provide a virtual voice/video communication service over a limited channel bandwidth. A voice communication path is established between two subscriber communication stations and a desired still picture image is transmitted via the voice channel at the start of the transmission. Portions of the still image expected to be visually active during the communication, such as facial movements (e.g. the lips of the speaker), are replaced at the receiver by an idealized representative image. The voice portion of the transmission is digitally encoded and transmitted from the transmitting station to the receiving station. Synchronous activation of the idealized image (e.g. the lips) are animated by code book coefficients of the digitized speech message.
