Cyclopentanes alkyl-substituted with one or more C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyls are used as chain transfer agents in (co)polymerization reactions carried out, either in suspension or in aqueous emulsion, at low temperatures, comprised between -30.degree. and +30.degree. C., for preparing thermoplastic hydrogen-containing fluoropolymers , such as for instance ethylene/chlorotrifluoroethylene and ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene copolymers, or homopolymers and copolymers of vinylidenefluoride. They are transfer agents having high efficiency, which are liquid and thus can be easily handled and dosed, non-toxic, yielding alkyl end groups of high thermal stability.

The invention relates to new thermoprocessable tetrafluoroethylene copolymers particularly suitable for coating electric cables by melt extrusion. These copolymers consist of:(a) from 0.5 to 13% by weight of perfluoromethylvinylether;(b) from 0.05 to 3% by weight of one or more monomers selected in particular classes of linear perfluoroalkylvinylethers containing one or more ether oxygen atoms, of perfluorovinylethers containing a cycle having 6 atoms and having one or more ether oxygen atoms, and of alphafluoroalkylethylenes;(c) tetrafluoroethylene, in such an amount that the sum of the percentages of the various monomers is equal to 100% by weight.

The present invention pertains to a process for the manufacture of a porous membrane, said process comprising the following steps: (i) providing a composition [composition (F)] comprising: —at least one fluoropolymer [polymer (F)] comprising recurring units derived from at least one (meth)acrylic monomer (MA) having formula (I) wherein: —R1, R2 and R3, equal to or different from each other, are independently selected from a hydrogen atom and a C1-C3 hydrocarbon group, and —RX is a hydrogen atom or a C1-C5 hydrocarbon moiety comprising at least one functional group selected from a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, an epoxide, an ester and an ether group, and —at least one poly(alkylene oxide) (PAO); (ii) processing said composition (F) to provide a film; (iii) treating the film so obtained with an aqueous composition to provide said porous membrane. The present invention also relates to films and compositions used in said process, to porous membranes obtained from said process and to use of said porous membranes as separators in Lithium-ion batteries, as filtration membranes or in biomedical applications.

A fluoropolymer composition having a total luminous transmittance (TT) of less than 15%, when measured according to ASTM D1003 on a sample having a thickness of about 50 μm, said composition comprising: at least one hydrogen-containing fluoropolymer [polymer (A)]; from 5 to 80% by weight of (A) of at least one inorganic pigment [pigment (I)]; and from 1 to 99% by weight of (I) of at least one per(halo)fluoropolymer chosen among tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) copolymers having a dynamic viscosity at a shear rate of 1 rad×sec−1 of less than 100 Pa×sec at a temperature of 280° C. [polymer (B)]. By adding polymer (B) to the composition based on polymer (A) it is advantageously possible to obtain an even dispersion of the pigment (I) so that a composition possessing outstanding opacity and still being processable under the form of films, so as to provide adequate mechanical properties, can be manufactured therefrom.
