Abstract: A nasal cushion (30) comprises a substantially triangularly shaped frame (32) from which extends a membrane (34). The frame (32) has a scalloped edge (36) by which the cushion (30) is affixed to a mask body. The membrane (34) has an aperture (38) into which the wearer's nose is received. The membrane (34) is spaced away from the rim (40) of the frame (32), and its outer surface (41) is of substantially the same shape as the rim (40). Respective notches (42, 44) receive the bridge of the wearer's nose. The wearer's nose is received through the aperture (38) into the chamber within the mask body (46). The seal forming portion (45) thus contacts both the surface of the wearer's nose and a portion of the wearer's face in the region between the base of the nose and the upper lip, and around the sides and over the bridge of the nose. The shape of the seal forming portion (45) is particularly suited to effectively seal the difficult region of the facial contour that is the crease between between the sides of the nose and the face.

Abstract: A harness assembly for a nasal mask for communicating breathable gas to a patient's airways, for example, in the administering of CPAP or like breathable gas delivery treatments, includes a cap portion adapted to engage, in use, the occipital region of the skull. The cap portion includes a connector at each end. The harness assembly also includes a pair of upper and lower straps, each of the straps extending between one of the cap connectors and the nasal mask. The harness assembly grips the head in a region substantially fixed relative to the face and, as such, tension of the straps is not substantially affected by head movement.

The present invention discloses an adjustable forehead support for a nasal or full-face mask wherein the forehead support may be adjusted for the different shapes and sizes of a facial profile. The forehead support utilizes a dual-arm system which adjusts the position of the forehead support vis-à-vis the mask and/or air flow tube. The angle of the mask to the face may be adjusted with the present invention.

Abstract: A washout vent formed of or treated with hydrophobic or hydrophilic material, or a vent coated with hydrophobic or hydrophilic material, reduces noise and/or minimizes or precludes the formation of blockage in the vent pathway due to outflow of gas from a respiratory mask. One or the other or combinations of hydrophobic and hydrophilic materials may be used to repel or wick moisture away to minimize or preclude moisture buildup on vent surfaces and/or clogging of vent pathways, particularly when using humidified air. Sintered porous plastic hydrophobic or hydrophilic materials are utilized and the porosity may be varied integrally within the vent membrane or by forming the vent from layers of materials having different porosities.

Abstract: A forehead support for a facial mask is adapted to be moveable between a first position with respect to a frame of the mask and a second position with respect to the frame. The forehead support includes a biasing mechanism that urges the forehead support in the second position. Abstract: Systems and/or methods for diagnosing sleep disorders in a patient are provided. In certain example embodiments, articles of bed clothing and/or bed sheets comprising sensors operable to obtain patient condition data related to sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) are provided to patients. The patient condition data is stored to a data recorder operably connected to the sensors. The sensors and the data recorder may communicate wirelessly. The bed clothing (e.g. wearable articles of clothing, bed sheets or mats, pillows, etc.) may have batteries and/or battery fibers disposed therein to power the sensors. In certain example embodiments, a bed sheet may be physically connected to a power supply and/or the data recorder. In certain example embodiments, a bed sheet and articles of bed clothing both may be provided to the patient.
