摘要： An electrophotographic photosensitive drum usable with an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, includes a non-circular twisted projection having a cross-section with a plurality of corner portions, non-circular twisted projection being provided at one longitudinal end of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, and being engageable with a non-circular twisted hole having a section with a plurality of corner portions, the non-circular twisted hole being disposed at a central portion of a driving rotatable member of a main assembly of the image forming apparatus; and a second electroconductive member contactable with a first electroconductive member electrically connected with a main assembly of the image forming apparatus, the first electroconductive member being disposed in the hole to provide a grounding of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, the second electroconductive member being provided on the projection and being electrically connected with the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, wherein a contact position between the second electroconductive member and the first electroconductive member moves in interrelation with the projection being retracted toward the hole by rotation of the driving rotatable member when the projection is engaged with the projection.

摘要： The image forming apparatus has a developer container containing a developer therein, a developer toner density detecting portion for detecting the permeability of the developer in the developer container to thereby detect toner density, and an engine controller for detecting whether the image forming apparatus has gone wrong, on the basis of the toner density detected by the developer toner density detecting portion. Thereby, it becomes possible to detect the failure of a developing apparatus reliably and early by an inexpensive construction.

The process cartridge and the unit can be detachably mounted to the main body of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The main body of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus includes a main body base member and a communication device. The process cartridge and the unit are positioned to a predetermined location by the unit abutting portion abutting against the main body base member, when the process cartridge and the unit are mounted to the main body of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus. In this state, the storage element is disposed at a position facing the communication device and can communicate with it in a noncontacting manner.

摘要： An electrical contact member is usable with a process cartridge, and is for establishing an electrical connection between the process cartridge and a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, when the process cartridge is mounted to the main assembly of the apparatus. The process cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum and a process device actable on the photosensitive drum. The electrical contact member includes: a base member; a mounting portion for mounting the base member to a frame of the process cartridge; a positioning portion for positioning the base member in the frame when the base member is mounted to the frame of the process cartridge by the mounting portion; and an electrical contact portion, projected from the base member, for establishing an electrical connection with a main assembly side electrical contact member, which is provided in the main assembly of the apparatus, by pressing in a direction against the main assembly side electrical contact member when the process cartridge is mounted to the main assembly of apparatus. This direction is different from a mounting direction in which the process cartridge is mounted to the main assembly of the apparatus.

摘要： A developing cartridge is detachably mountable to a main assembly of an image forming apparatus by passing through a mounting guide provided in the main assembly. The developing cartridge includes a frame; a developer carrying member for carrying a developer for developing an electrostatic latent image; a portion to be guided for being guided by the mounting guide when the developing cartridge passes through the mounting guide; an accommodating portion for accommodating the developer; a seal member for unsealably sealing an opening for permitting supply of the developer from the accommodating portion to the developer carrying member; and a grip member, provided at a longitudinal end portion of the seal member, including a fixed portion dismountably fixed on the frame and a grip portion to be gripped when the seal member is removed. The grip portion is disposed in a state in which the grip portion is bent relative to the fixed portion in a direction crossing a mounting direction of the developing cartridge. The grip portion prevents mounting of the developing cartridge by contacting a part of the image forming apparatus when the developing cartridge is mounted in the main assembly of the image forming apparatus.
