    摘要: The present invention teaches a method for enabling the formation of a high damping, soft polymer gel. The method includes: reacting a poly(.alpha.-olefin-co-maleimide) polymer with a maleated polyalkylene and an alkyl diamine under substantially dry conditions sufficient to form a polyalkylene grafted poly(.alpha.-olefin-co-maleimide) polymer product; and, dispersing the polyalkylene grafted poly(.alpha.-olefin-co-maleimide) polymer product with an extender oil sufficient to form the gel. The present invention also contemplates a polymer gel composition, a polymer composition and an article manufactured from the polymer gel composition.

    摘要: A composition includes a diene rubber and a metal phosphate ester of the formula: M being a metal with an oxidation state of +3 or +4, and R1 and R2 are independently selected from any organic moiety including hydrogen, except R1 and R2 cannot both be hydrogen. In addition, a method of making a rubber composition includes combining a solvent and a phosphate ester and mixing these to form a solution. A source of metal ions is then added to the solution. The metal in the source of metal ions is selected from the group consisting of metals with an oxidation state of +3 or +4. The product is then is combined with a diene rubber composition to form a useful article, such as the tread of a tire.

An associated method for making a rubber composition includes the steps of: combining a solvent and a multiple carboxylic, phosphonic, phosphoric, sulfuric, or sulfonic acid, or mixtures thereof, and mixing to form solution A; adding a source of metal ions to solution A and mixing to form a product A, the metal being selected from the metals having an oxidation state of +3 or +4, whereby product A includes a multiple-acid-derived metal soap; and combining the multiple-acid-derived metal soap with a diene rubber. A method of making a tire component includes the steps of: combining a solvent and a multiple carboxylic, phosphonic, phosphoric, sulfuric, or sulfonic acid, or mixtures thereof, and mixing to form solution A; adding a source of metal ions to solution A and mixing to form a product A, the metal being selected from the metals having an oxidation state of +3 or +4, whereby product A includes a multiple-acid-derived metal soap; combining the multiple-acid-derived metal soap with a diene rubber; and molding and vulcanizing the rubber composition into a tire component.

    摘要: A nanoporous material is provided. The pores of the nanoporous material are formed between nanoparticles that have a polymeric surface layer. The nanoporous material is produced by (a) suspending the nanoparticles in a medium material, wherein the nanoparticles are phase separated from the medium material, (b) heating the suspension to a temperature above the melting point of the nanoparticle surface layer, and (c) cooling the suspension. Alternatively, the nanoporous material may be produced by dissolving nanoparticles having a polymeric surface layer in a solvent, and then adding a medium material that causes the nanoparticles to phase separate from the solution.
