Abstract:
A reflective color display pixel has a top surface for receiving ambient light, and a plurality of sub-pixels including a first sub-pixel. The first sub-pixel has a broadband mirror and a luminescent layer disposed over the broadband mirror. The luminescent layer contains a luminescent material for absorbing a portion of the ambient light and emitting light of a first color, and a light-absorbing material for absorbing light of wavelengths longer than a wavelength of the first color.
Abstract:
Asymmetrical 2,5-disubstituted-1,4-diaminobenzenes are provided, along with a process for forming both symmetrical and asymmetrical 2,5-disubstituted-1,4-diaminobenzenes.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed towards a modified BODIPY dye matrix, luminescence-based pixels, luminescence-based sub-pixels, and methods using a modified BODIPY dyes. The modified BODIPY dye matrix includes a modified BODIPY dye and a polymer matrix including a radiation absorber.
Abstract:
Pigment-based inks with fluorinated material-surface modified pigments are provided. The inks include a non-polar carrier fluid, and pigment particles suspended in the non-polar carrier fluid. The pigment particles either have fluorinated acidic functional groups, which are charged through basic charge directors to give negatively charged pigment dispersions, or have fluorinated basic functional groups, which are charged thorough acidic charge directors to give positively charged pigment dispersions. A combination of an electronic display and an electronic ink is also provided, as is a method for modifying the pigment particles.
Abstract:
Electronic inks are disclosed herein. The electronic ink includes a non-polar carrier fluid, a plurality of positively charged colorant particles dispersed in the non-polar carrier fluid, and a plurality of reverse co-micelles including a basic charge director and an acidic charge controlling agent. The basic charge director has a molecular weight that is within 5000 of a molecular weight of the acidic charge controlling agent.
Abstract:
A method for forming a functionalized latex polymer includes polymerizing a heterogeneous dispersion of water insoluble monomers in water, thereby forming a latex polymer. An at least partially water soluble halogenated non-ionic group is reacted with the latex polymer, whereby a halogen is displaced from the non-ionic group, thereby forming an at least partially water soluble non-ionic group that attaches to the latex polymer.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a display element includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a display cell defined by a dielectric material between the first electrode and the second electrode. The display cell includes a narrower portion adjacent the first electrode and a wider portion. The narrower portion has a first cross-sectional area and the wider portion has a second cross-sectional area. A cross-sectional area of the display cell gradually transitions between the first cross-sectional area and the second cross-sectional area. The display element includes a fluid with colorants within the display cell.
Abstract:
A pigment-based ink comprises: a non-polar carrier fluid; and pigment particles suspended in the non-polar carrier fluid. The pigment particles are coated with a metal oxide that is modified with at least one silane coupling agent to introduce functional groups, steric stabilizers or both. A combination of an electronic display and an electronic ink is provided, as is a method for modifying the pigment particles.
Abstract:
A phthalocyanine dye with extended conjugation includes one or both of a phthalocyanine component and a naphthalocyanine component and at least one water soluble substituent on an aryl group of the phthalocyanine dye. The extended conjugation of the phthalocyanine dye includes at least one benzene moiety of the component being one of (a) joined to an aryl group either indirectly using an alkylene linkage or directly, (b) joined to a benzene moiety of another of the components to form an oligomer of the components, and (c) a combination of (a) and (b). The extended conjugation shifts absorption of the phthalocyanine dye to greater than 800 nm.
Abstract:
The present invention is drawn to a layered organic device, and a method of forming the same. The method includes steps of applying a first solvent-containing organic layer to a substrate and removing solvent from the first solvent-containing organic layer to form a first solidified organic layer. Additional steps include applying a second solvent-containing organic layer to the first solidified organic layer and removing solvent from the second solvent-containing organic layer to form a second solidified organic layer. The first solidified organic layer can be crosslinked, which suppresses negative impact to components in the first solidified organic layer when the solvent of the second solvent-containing organic layer is deposited on the first solidified organic layer.
