Apparatus for dispensing toner into a developing unit of a xerographic-copying machine is disclosed. The dispenser comprises a hopper having sidewalls provided by a pair of resilient members whose lower ends engage the periphery of a rotatable fluteddispensing shaft located at and forming the bottom of the hopper. The resilient members function to seal the lower portion of the hopper, meter the amount of toner carried from the hopper when the fluted-dispensing shaft is rotated, and clean the toner from the toner-carrying grooves or channels of the fluted-dispensing shaft. Mechanism is provided for indicating when the amount of toner in the hopper has been reduced to a predetermined minimum amount.

We disclose a toilet system which analyzes solid waste to detect tags which were associated with pharmaceutical or nutritional products and excreted in the solid waste of a user. The toilet system may include a receptacle for receiving solid waste, a liquid dispenser for providing a liquid to assist in dispersing the solid waste, a solid waste dispersing system which may mix the solid waste with the liquid thereby homogenizing the solid waste, and an electromagnetic signature detector which may analyze the tags in the solid waste. The electromagnetic signature detector may include a selective binding surface which may bind tags present in the solid waste and which may be connected to a transducer which senses the presence of bound tags.

The invention provides a method for producing prion protein having an aggregated conformation by contacting native conformation prion protein with aggregated conformation prion protein in a liquid preparation and subjecting this to at least one cycle or to a number of cycles of application of shear-force for fragmenting aggregates of prion protein, wherein the shear-force applied is precisely controlled. In addition to this process for amplification of aggregated state prion protein from native conformation prion protein, the invention relates to the aggregated state prion protein obtained by the amplification process, which aggregated state prion protein has one conformation, which is e.g. identical within one batch and reproducible between batches, e.g. as detectable by proteinase resistance in a Western blot.
