Abstract:
An apparatus and method for cleaning a surface comprising a gas dispensing conduit having a first end connectable to a source of pressurized gas and an open second end such that a stream of pressurized gas may be dispensed from the open second end of the gas dispensing conduit. A liquid dispensing conduit is connectable to a source of liquid and associated with the gas dispensing conduit in such a way that liquid is introduced into the stream of pressurized gas wherein the liquid dispensing conduit allows liquid to be introduced into the stream of pressurized gas at a rate that causes the liquid to contact the surface to be cleaned while substantially preventing the liquid from running off the surface.
Abstract:
A device for coating an exterior of an elongate object includes a housing structure with an elongate chamber having first and second opposite ends. A port communicates with the first end for receiving the elongate object and an outlet is located at the second end. An air supply passage and a coating material supply passage communicate with the elongate chamber. Pressurized air and coating material are adapted to enter the elongate chamber through the air supply passage and the coating material supply passage, respectively, to form a mist in the elongate chamber moving toward the outlet while coating the exterior of the object. A method of coating an exterior surface of the elongate object with the coating material includes holding the elongate object lengthwise in the elongate chamber, mixing the pressurized air and the coating material to form a mist, and coating the exterior surface while directing the mist around the exterior surface and toward the outlet of the elongate chamber.
Abstract:
An improved apparatus for generating a mist is provided. The apparatus has at least one working fluid supply conduit (66) having an inlet in fluid communication with a supply of working fluid and an outlet in fluid communication with a first mixing chamber. The apparatus also includes a plurality of transport fluid passages (60a,60b), each of which has an inlet adapted to receive a supply of transport fluid and an outlet in fluid communication with the mixing chamber. Downstream of the mixing chamber is a nozzle (72) having an inlet (74) in fluid communication with the mixing chamber, an outlet (78), and a throat portion (76) intermediate the nozzle inlet (74) and outlet (78). The throat portion (76) of the nozzle (72) has a cross sectional area which is less than that of either the nozzle inlet (74) or the nozzle outlet (78). The provision of a plurality of transport fluid passages flowing into the mixing chamber, and the nozzle downstream of the mixing chamber, enhance the atomisation of the working fluid to generate the mist.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for energy-saving and water-saving devices are disclosed. In some embodiments, a head assembly is coupled to receive a liquid flow from a liquid supply and a gas flow from a gas supply, wherein the head assembly defines a mixing region configured to receive the liquid flow and the gas flow, and a dispensing portion configured to receive a combined flow from the mixing region. In some implementations, a spray nozzle may sprayably introduce the liquid flow into the mixing region. In other implementations, a plurality of curtain flows may be drawn through apertures into the dispensing portion by the combined flow. In still other implementations, a portion of the combined flow dispensed by the head assembly may be recaptured into the gas flow.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for forming aerosol, the device comprising at least one gas-dispersing atomizer for atomizing a liquid into aerosol by means of gas at an atomizing head of the atomizer and an atomizing chamber, which is in flow connection with the atomizing head and in which flow restraints are arranged for changing the hydrodynamic properties of the aerosol flow discharging from the atomizing head. According to the present invention the flow restraints are arranged in the inner walls of the atomizing chamber in such a manner that they protrude from the inner walls to the inside of the atomizing chamber.
Abstract:
An apparatus for generating and spraying an aerosol which contains liquid particles in a gas stream and for pointedly supplying the aerosol to a lubricating location, comprises (a) a vessel containing a supply of liquid and a pressure space above the level of the liquid supply, (b) an atomizer disposed in the pressure space above the level of the liquid supply and comprising: (i) a spraying device for spraying the aerosol, (ii) a liquid feed line connected at one end to the liquid supply and its other end to the spraying device and including a pump for feeding the liquid, (iii) a gas feed line connected at one end to a pressure gas source and at its other end to the spraying device, (iv) at least one apertured wall disposed in the way of the trajectories of the spray jets from the spraying device and having holes for passing liquid particles of a predetermined size while separating greater liquid particles at the apertured wall, and (c) an aerosol line which connects the pressure space with a machining location to be wetted by the aerosol.
Abstract:
A water spray has a nozzle (6) for carrying a pressurised flow of water to an outlet (7) thereof, and a conduit (12) surrounding the nozzle outlet (7) for carrying a flow of gas contiguously around the flow of cleaning liquid exiting said nozzle outlet (7). The ratio of velocities of gas and water immediately downstream of the nozzle is in the range 0.5 to 2. This enables good control of water droplet size in the spray, to a volume median diameter in the range 0.5 to 2 mm at 1 m from the nozzle. Low water pressures may be employed in cleaning using such a spray.

An improved direct liquid-feed fuel cell having a solid membrane electrolyte for electrochemical reactions of an organic fuel. Catalyst utilization and catalyst/membrane interface improvements are disclosed. Specifically, the catalyst layer is applied directly onto the membrane electrolyte.
Abstract:
A discharge head is connected to a double pump for air and liquid. The air and liquid are separately passed by pump actuation through a flow calming member and then into a combining member in a way such that the air enters in the form of numerous individual jets and under a low pressure and at a low flow rate into a liquid-wetted screen unit provided in a widened chamber. In the vicinity of the screen unit which are supplied with liquid from a chamber, the liquid can be foamed in a stepwise manner with the aid of air until the foam is discharged ready for use through an end channel.
Abstract:
A hand-held spray gun including a handle section, a barrel section mounted forwardly of the handle section, and a nozzle section mounted forwardly of the barrel section. The handle section has a liquid inlet at a rearward end thereof and is adapted to direct pressurized liquid in a straight longitudinal path through a relatively inexpensive plastic tube which functions both as a liquid conduit and as a mechanism for moving a valve follower of the gun between open and closed conditions in response to actuation of a trigger. The handle section further has a pressurized air inlet which communicates with the nozzle section through an air passageway defined between the liquid conduit tube and a barrel section housing for facilitating liquid atomization of the spray discharge. The nozzle tip has a multiplicity of spray orifices which are selectively locatable into operative position and at least some of which include an annular sealing member such that upon positioning of the spray orifice into operative position the associated sealing member blocks communication of pressurized air, enabling the gun to be operated in a purely hydraulic, non air assisted, spray mode.
