摘要:
An engine cooling module 10 which includes a shroud 12, a heat exchanger 18, a fan 14, a motor 13 for driving fan 14, and a plurality of air dams 1. Shroud 12, circumscribing the fan, has a main opening to allow air to pass through the fan to or from a heat exchanger 18. Fan 14 is associated with the shroud 12 to be adjacent to the fan opening to permit air moved by the fan to pass through the heat exchanger. Air dams 1 allow air to flow more easily in one direction than the opposite direction. In the fan flow direction, air dams 1 provide relatively little resistance to the flow. In the direction opposite to fan flow direction, air dams 1 provide more resistance than as compared to the resistance when air flows in the fan flow direction. Under ram air conditions (e.g., when the vehicle is moving), the use of air dams can reduce the load on the fan's motor by cooling properties of ram air, while reducing recirculation, thereby increasing efficiency.

A heat exchanger is assembled in a simple and cost-effective way and needs a relatively low space requirement. According to the invention, the tubes (11) are expanded at the tube ends (16) in such a way that the tube ends (16) are of rectangular design in cross section. The tube ends (16) have parallel long connecting surfaces (18) which are brought into bearing contact with long connecting surfaces (18) of adjacent tube ends (16). Furthermore, the tube ends (16) have short connecting surfaces (22), onto which the collecting tanks (23, 29) are placed with their legs (24, 25) or collars (30, 31). A space-saving heat exchanger can be produced in a simple way by soldering the long connecting surfaces (18) together, on the one hand, and by soldering the short connecting surfaces (22) to the collecting tanks (23, 29), on the other hand.

A corrugated fin comprises a first part which is interposed between paired first tubes, a second part which is interposed between paired second tubes and a third part through which the first and second parts are integrally connected. The third part of the corrugated fin is formed with louvers which extend in a direction perpendicular to upper and lower folded edge portions of the first and second parts. Each of the louvers is of a half-louver type including an elongate flat portion which is bent up or down along a lower edge thereof from a major portion of the third part and two generally triangular supporting portions which support longitudinal ends of the elongate flat portion from the major portion.

An apparatus is disclosed for supporting and sealing a heat exchanger unit. Specifically, a heat exchanger is disclosed comprising a pair of integrated header units arranged in parallel relation to each other. Each header unit comprises a radiator header and a condenser. The radiator unit and condenser maintain separate heat exchange fluid flowpaths. A plurality of parallel heat transfer tubes is connected perpendicularly to said integrated headers, and a plurality of fins extend between adjacent heat transfer tubes of the radiator. A fin unit including a plurality of fins is mounted to an outside surface of an outermost heat transfer tube, and an integrated side support is connected to the fin unit and integrated headers.

A description is given of a module carrier for various diverse heat exchangers for a motor vehicle engine, which comprises a supporting frame, to which the coolant/air cooler and at least one air-conditioning condenser is fitted. The supporting frame comprises a lower part with a crossmember 2 as base and two side parts 3, 4 projecting vertically therefrom, to define upwardly open compartments 6, 7, 6null, 7null in the lower part for the insertion of at least the coolant/air cooler and the air-conditioning condenser 9. These upwardly open compartments are closed off by an upper support 5, which interconnects the free ends of the side parts 3, 4 to form the supporting frame and which secures the inserted heat exchangers 8, 9 in their positions.

The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a fin for a heat exchange module which comprises at least two heat exchangers equipped with fluid-circulation tubes and comprising cooling fins common to the exchangers. The fin consists of a metal strip (14) having a width (L1) divided into at least two heat-exchange regions (18, 20) by at least one series of longitudinal oblong holes spaced apart from one another. In accordance with the method of the invention, at least one series of longitudinal slits (22) is formed, spaced apart from one another in the metal strip (14), and the longitudinal slits are widened so as to form a series of oblong holes spaced apart from one another. According to one embodiment variant, stampings (24) are formed between the longitudinal slits (22), and these stampings are flattened so as to widen the slits (22) and form the oblong holes.

A heat exchanger has a condenser having a condenser tank and a radiator having a radiator tank. An end of the condenser tank in a longitudinal direction thereof is closed by a condenser tank cap, and an end of the radiator tank in a longitudinal direction thereof is closed by a radiator tank cap. A bracket through which the heat exchanger is mounted to a vehicle is secured to the end of the radiator tank in the longitudinal direction thereof so that a cavity is formed between the radiator tank cap and the bracket. As a result, heat is restricted from being transmitted from the radiator tank to the bracket. Therefore, heat is restricted from being transmitted from the radiator to the condenser through the bracket to maintain heat exchange performance of the condenser.

An assembly of two heat exchangers is readily formed or disassembled using spring clips to hold the two heat exchangers in assembled relation. The arrangement is such that the spring clips do not exert undesirable tension or compressional forces against either of the cores of the heat exchangers, but rather, exert only torsional forces at the points of connection.

A double heat exchanger includes a radiator having a radiator tank and a radiator core portion, and a condenser having a condenser tank and a condenser core portion. The radiator tank and the condenser tank are integrally connected by a connection portion protruding from the radiator and the condenser tanks toward the radiator and condenser core portions. Therefore, the connection portion is cooled by air passing through the radiator and condenser core portions. Thus, the connection portion restricts heat from the radiator tank from being transmitted to the condenser tank through the connection portion, thereby preventing heat-exchanging capacity of the condenser from being decreased in the double heat exchanger.

A condenser has an outlet side region close to an outlet for discharging refrigerant from the condenser. The outlet side region does not face auxiliary radiator, which is disposed on a cooling air upstream side of the condenser. Accordingly, low temperature cooling air that does not pass through the auxiliary radiator can flow into the outlet side region of the condenser in which the refrigerant is lowered most. As a result, a difference in temperature between the refrigerant and the cooling air at the outlet side region becomes large. This prevents deterioration of cooling capacity of the condenser.
