Abstract:
A method of selectively controlling the self-sealing ability of a tyre obtained by application of a sealing assembly on a drum and subsequent formation thereon of a precursor of a green tyre inclusive of liner and carcass, followed by shaping, curing and molding. The sealing assembly includes: a self-supporting thermoplastic film of polyamide or polyester and a layer of sealing material possessing viscoelasticity and stickiness features, which is associated with and supported by the self-supporting thermoplastic film. The sealing assembly is easily puncturable by a sharp-pointed element while it maintains such a deformability and stickiness that it helps in the transfer of the sealing material during ejection of the sharp-pointed element and limits the transferred material amount to such an extent that holes bigger than a predetermined value are not sealed.
Abstract:
A device and method for storing tire repair material in or around the wheel barrel of a tire. Also, a device and a method for repairing a compromised tire using tire repair material stored in or around the wheel barrel of a tire. In some embodiments, the means for storing the tire repair material in or around the wheel barrel may comprise non-interconnected bays. Device embodiments may also comprise a tire repair material applying means (for example, means utilizing some form of propulsion and/or spraying). Thus, in some embodiments, the tire repair material may be applied to a compromised section of the inside surface of the tire, originating from the direction of the wheel barrel. In some embodiments, the device may also comprise a means for detecting a compromised tire and the punctured section thereof, as well as a means for signaling commencement of application of the tire repair material.

Abstract:
Tire, the internal wall of which is covered with an airtight layer, itself covered with a layer of self-sealing product, comprising a radial carcass reinforcement (60) composed of reinforcing elements (61) having an elongation at break EBC and a breaking strength BSC, placed at a placement pitch PC and coated with rubber composition, designed so as to satisfy the inequality: BS C P C ≤ 1.5 · 10 6 · ( R S 2 - R E 2 ) R T , each sidewall of the tire additionally comprising an additional strengthening reinforcement (120) composed of thread reinforcing elements having an elongation at break EBA and a breaking strength BSA, placed at a placement pitch PA and coated with rubber composition, in which each of the two additional strengthening reinforcements is designed such that: BS A P A ≥ 1.3 · BS C P C , and EBC≧EBA, the breaking strengths BSA and BSC and the elongations at break EBC and EBA being determined on the reinforcing elements after extraction from the cured tire.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a run flat safety support ring intended to be mounted on a wheel rim inside a tire equipping a vehicle for supporting the tire tread in case of loss of inflation pressure, comprising a generally cylindrical crown intended to come in contact with the interior of the tire tread in the event of the loss of inflation pressure, and leaving a clearance from the tire tread interior at normal pressure, the crown comprising a self lubricating rubber composition, the self lubricating rubber composition comprising at least one rubber and from 1 to 50 phr of at least one additive selected from alcohols of formula I, esters of formula II, or amides of formula III wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from C12-C36 alkyl, C12-C36 alkenyl, or C12-C36 alkadienyl.
Abstract:
A vehicle drive includes pneumatic tires mounted on rims and includes a track which is engaged by and cooperates with the tires. Tire-supporting elements on the track position the tires on the track. Also, the tires, on at least the surfaces which come into contact with the tire-supporting elements, have an outer rubber layer which has a high wear resistance and low friction properties and in which 50-100% is butadiene rubber.
Abstract:
A lubricant for a tire and wheel assembly to reduce friction between the inner wall of a tire and the rim or other parts of the vehicle wheel. The lubricant comprises 50 to 70% by weight of polyethylene glycol and/or polyglycol ether, 49 to 27% by weight aluminum bronze, and 1 to 3% by weight of a wetting agent.
Abstract:
An emergency track ring for a tubeless pneumatic tire comprising a bottom reinforced flange for mounting the ring on such a tire rim. At least one opening is formed in the ring to permit air to be admitted to the interior of the tire. Groove means are formed in the ring for filling with a lubricating material, and sealing lips close the groove means and seal the lubricant therein when the tire is mounted on said rim and under pressure. Flange means are integrally formed with the sealing lips and extend upwardly for engagement by the inside of the tire cover during loss of air, the depressing of the flange means effecting a lever action which causes the sealing lips to move so as to open the grooves and permit and lubricating material to be released to reduce friction between the tire cover and the track ring.
Abstract:
A tire and rim assembly with a plurality of dispensing means adapted to release material into the inflation cavity upon operation of the assembly with the tire in the deflated condition to, for example, minimize damage to the tire cause by operation after deflation. The dispensing means are mounted in a balanced array so that each dispensing means lies at least partially in the well of the drop-center rim, and the dispensing means define a clear arc in the well which is adapted to receive portions of the beads during mounting of the tire to the rim. The clear arc of the well may also receive the beads of the tire during demounting of the tire from the rim assembly. Thus, the tire may be mounted to or demounted from the rim assembly by a method which incorporates the ordinary "buttonhooking" procedure commonly utilized with drop-center rims.
Abstract:
A tire/wheel assembly comprised of (A) a pneumatic tire axially mounted on a centered, wheeled rim, said assembly having attached therein a receptacle containing a coolant composition comprised of water and a low molecular weight polyethylene glycol, and (B) means for releasing said coolant composition onto the inner surface of said pneumatic tire. The invention has a particular purpose of inhibiting or retarding a rapid rate and temperature build-up caused by pneumatic tire being at least partially inflated primarily due to a reduction in its inflation pressure.
