The invention relates to a composition comprising a polyester copolymer that comprises (a) recurring dibasic acid derived units and polyol derived units, at least 50 mole % of the dibasic acid derived units comprising dicarboxylic acid derived units each containing an alicyclic ring, (b) 25 to 75 mole % of the polyol derived units containing an aromatic ring not immediately adjacent to each hydroxyl group of the corresponding polyol, (c) 25 to 75 mole % of the polyol derived units of the polyester are non-aromatic, and (d) at least 0.1 mole percent, in sum total, of units derived from a multifunctional polyol having more than two hydroxy groups and/or units derived from a polyacid having more than two carboxylic acid groups and derivatives thereof. The invention is also directed to shaped articles, especially extruded films, made from such compositions. Examples of such extruded films are image-receiving layers for use in an image-recording element.

A conformable oriented polymeric film comprising a layer of copolyester derived from: (i) one or more diol(s); (ii) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid; and (iii) one or more aliphatic dicarboxylic acid(s) of the general formula CnH2n(COOH)2 wherein n is 2 to 8, wherein the aromatic dicarboxylic acid is present in the copolyester in an amount of from 60 to 85 mole % based on the total amount of dicarboxylic acid components in the copolyester, wherein the copolyester is a random or alternating copolyester, and wherein after deformation by subjecting and maintaining the film to 7% strain, the stress within the film immediately after deformation dissipates to a residual value of less than 60% of the original value within 10 minutes of said deformation; and use thereof as a conformable medium for signage, advertising, graphic art and other display applications or as an overlaminate for such media.

Abstract:
Polyester films which comprise, alongside thermoplastic polyester, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, from 5-45% by weight of poly(m-xyleneadipamide) and optionally from 0.02 to 1% by weight of fillers. The inventive films, which are produced by a sequential stretching process, feature improved mechanical properties, such as a modulus of elasticity greater than 3500 N/mm2 in both orientation directions, high gloss, low haze, and very good barrier properties with respect to oxygen transmission. The inventive films are therefore suitable as packaging material for foods and for other consumable items.

In the resulting settling toluene, the polymer precipitates the enantiomer (-)PTOBEE. The compounds obtained are of the cholesteric liquid crystal type, obtained by stereoselective recrystallization in toluene.
