Abstract:
An embodiment includes an electron beam source system having a first electron beam source unit with a substrate having a substrate-top end and a substrate-bottom end; and a first lens coupled to the substrate-bottom end defining a first aperture and having a lens-top end and a lens-bottom end. Further embodiments comprise an electron-emission region at the substrate-bottom end and aligned with the first aperture, the electron-emission region being operable to emit one or more electrons due to one or more photons contacting the electron-emission region, which may include passing through the substrate and into the electron-emission region, wherein the electron-emission region comprises a first doped portion of the substrate.
Abstract:
A method of improving oxidation properties of biodiesel-containing fuel composition. The method provides combining a major amount of middle distillate fuel containing more than about 5 volume percent biodiesel components with a minor amount of a synergistic mixture of (A) a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinimide dispersant and (B) a compound of the formula: and tautomers and enantiomers thereof. In the formula, R2 is a hydrocarbyl group having a number average molecular weight ranging from 100 to 5000. The synergistic mixture has a weight ratio of A:B ranging from 2:1 to 10:1.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a quantum information system includes a source of time dependent entangled photons and an indicating unit. The indicating unit indicates the entangled state of the entangled photons based on the emission time of one or more of the entangled photons.

The invention disclosed provides a system for theft deterrence in a retail establishment having an inventory control system, a set of transceiver enabled storage units, and a set of RFID tags placed on stocked items. A stream of system logs and system alarms is compiled by a centralized computer which executes inventory database updates under normal inventory movement through a typical business cycle. The inventory is tracked from reception, to storage areas, to service areas, to point of sales. The system alerts operations management when abnormal inventory removal is detected. As the inventory moves from storage areas to service areas, the items are associated to a person and tracked until the inventory is properly checked in at its intended destination. The items may be associated to employees via a continuously monitoring video surveillance system, smart card identification system, or RFID tags on each person containing identification and credential information.
Abstract:
Playground equipment may include a seesaw. The seesaw may include a first seat and a second seat facing the first seat. The playground equipment may include one or more additional seats that may face away from the first and second seats and which may be disposed at least proximate a pivot point of the seesaw. The playground equipment may be sized and configured to rock back and forth, for example, in a direction different from the direction that the seesaw moves.
Abstract:
The utilization of a specific load transfer device for the purpose of allowing for reliable connection and adhesion of composite wood boards during edifice manufacture therewith is provided. Such a device is configured for containment within slots cut into the peripheral edges of such wood boards and cut into a shape therein that is complementary to that of the device itself. In such a manner, the device, when introduced within the properly shaped slot, permits separation of adjacent wood boards that are sequentially applied to the frame of the target edifice, as well as, ultimately, sufficient load bearing strength for the overall construction (such as a roof) within which such connected wood boards are utilized. The separation of wood boards thus permits proper sealing therebetween (with tape, sealant, or other like material) as well as proper distance for shrinking or swelling (due to moisture/temperature variations) to be taken into account during the lifetime of the edification (thereby permitting expansion as needed). The ability to impart increased load bearing strength thus allows for an increase in construction materials (in number and in weight) to be carried and kept on such a structure during construction as well. The method of manufacture of an edifice utilizing such load transfer devices between wood boards is also encompassed within this invention.
Abstract:
An axle assembly includes a first and a second electric motor which drive a gearbox assembly substantially therebetween. A proper gear teeth contact pattern between the electric motor drive gears and a ring gear is obtained by adjusting electric motor housing portions relative a main housing portion.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing power to an electrostatic device includes a monitor and control system that prevents inadvertent and damaging electrical arcing. When the electrostatic device is first energized, voltage is gradually increased and the flow of electrical current is closely monitored. In the event the device is too close to ground or a grounded object, current flow exceeds a predetermined threshold and power is disconnected from the electrostatic device. Later, as the device voltage is increased to operating voltage, electrical current delivered to the electrostatic device is monitored for excessive current and excessive rate of change. If either fault condition is detected, power supply voltage may be reduced or disconnected, depending upon the severity of the fault. A microprocessor control system is illustrated for implementing the invention, including hardware and various software algorithms that provide the requisite gathering of information, analysis and responsive actions.
