Abstract:
The present invention provides a compound of Formula I, wherein R1 is not H when R2 is H and R2 is not H when R1 is H, further wherein R1 is CnH(2n+1)O, wherein n is 1-10, R2 is OH or CnH(2n+1)O, wherein n is 1-10, A, B and R1, R2, R5, R6, and R7 are separately and independently selected from a group consisting of H, alkyl, hydroxyl, halo, nitro and aryl groups, R11 is an alkyl or an aryl group and L is an optional linker or linking group, with x=0 or 1, i.e., if x=0, no linking group is present, or a salt or prodrug or derivative thereof that is a skin-lightening agent useful for the inhibition of melanin synthesis and/or the removal of existing melanin to function as a skin-lightening agent.
Abstract:
A heteroatom (N,S,O)-rich porous organic polymer and a membrane-based separation system and process employing the polymer is provided that utilizes one of a number of the heteroatom-rich porous organic polymers which contain ultra-small pores in their structures. The polymers can be used in the membranes to form a simpler, easy to regenerate separation system and method that and does not involve phase changes in the operation of the system. The system with the functionalized nanoporous organic polymer(s) can be utilized as a nanoporous membrane composite(s) for CO2 gas separation, or in the formation of a heterogeneous catalyst to convert CO2 to useful chemicals.
Abstract:
A system and method for sensitive measurements of molecular binding as a function of time and temperature provided by a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) instrument producing a stable temperature gradient over the sensor surface. Continuous monitoring of reflected light intensity from different locations of the sensor allows simultaneous measurement of time and temperature dependence of binding interactions.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a compound of Formula I, II or III or a salt or prodrug derivative thereof that is a skin-lightening agent useful for the inhibition of melanin synthesis and/or the removal of existing melanin to function as a skin-lightening agent.

Abstract:
Disclosed herein are systems and methods for angle measurement. According to one embodiment, the angle of rotation between a first movable portion of the device and a second fixed portion of the device is measured based on the times when a plurality of marks on a third rotating portion of the device are sensed by a plurality of sensors on both the first movable and the second fixed portions of the device. The embodiment utilizes an electronic computation device to analyze the times and provide an accurate measurement of the angle.
Abstract:
The manipulation of nanoparticles is facilitated through the use of a Langmuir-Blodgett trough constraining the nanoparticles to two dimensions and allowing their density to be controlled through the barriers of the Langmuir-Blodgett trough. A film formed in this manner can be applied to enhance a transparent conductive electrode on the photovoltaic cell. Alternatively the nanoparticles as so constrained can be given two types of functionalization, for example, of an anticancer agent and a targeting ligand.
Abstract:
A printable refractory material is provided having a liquid and powder component configured for use in a 3-D powder printer, where the material forms hydraulic bonds when the liquid and powder components are combined. Methods of printing the refractory material and forming castings therefrom are also provided.
Abstract:
An airborne silica detection system provides a chemiluminescence reaction for quantitative assessment of silica on an automated basis. A prefilter allows reaction to be sensitive to particle sizes relevant to chronic respiratory diseases.
Abstract:
Various embodiments disclosed relate to a method of preparing aryl fluorinated ether compounds. The method involves contacting an aryl halide with a fluorinated alcohol in the presence of a photocatalyst, a base, and irradiation with electromagnetic radiation comprising a wavelength between about 200 nm and about 800 nm. The present invention also provides a method of late-stage photochemical modification of a biologically active compound, such as drugs or agrochemicals. Fluorinated derivatives of griseofulvin, clofibrate, and 2,4-D methyl ester are described herein.
