Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for preparing acrylamides; wherein, a propiolamide is reacted with an activated aromatic ring to yield a wide variety of acrylamides.
Abstract:
A liquid delivery apparatus including a reservoir into which liquid may be introduced to pressurize the reservoir, an outlet for discharging liquid under the pressure in the reservoir, a valve to control passage of liquid from the reservoir to the outlet, a control mechanism controlling operation of the valve, and a way to transmit the pressure in the reservoir to the valve control mechanism. The valve includes an opening, a closure member for closing the opening, and a biasing spring, the arrangement of which being such that the valve is normally held closed under the force of the biasing spring and the pressure of the liquid in the reservoir. The valve control mechanism includes a movable element which is acted on by the pressure in the reservoir and transmits a resultant force to the closure member in a direction to open the valve, wherein the respective effective surface areas of the movable element and the closure member and the force of the biasing spring are chosen such that the closure member is opened when the pressure of the liquid in the reservoir reaches a predetermined level.
Abstract:
The bicycle rack consists of a substantially inverted U-shaped strut member and an elongated top member which overlies and is connected to the bridge of the U-shaped strut member. Side members extend from each side of the top member to overlap a portion of a respective leg of the U-shaped strut member. Each side member is substantially V-shaped and at least one leg of one side members carries an interface for releasably engaging a clip which is mounted on a side wall of the side container.
Abstract:
An ophthalmic aspirating/irrigating device incorporates a needle comprising two tubes disposed in close proximity and terminating close to one another at the distal end of the device. The distal end of the needle is insertable into an eye to be treated while the proximal end of one tube is connected to a syringe by way of a valve device. The valve device contains two one way valves, one of which provides passage only from the syringe to a discharge opening and the second of which provides passage only in the direction from the tube to the syringe. The valves are of the type comprising two flexible lips normally in contact with one another and separable by a pressure rise across the valve to present an orifice. The valves are disposed such that when the device is in a vertical position with the needle projecting downwardly, the orifice of the one valve is located at a distance of at most 1 mm below the level of the orifice of the other valve.
Abstract:
A composition including an isolated cloaked gene editor. A composition for treating a lysogenic virus, including a vector encoding isolated nucleic acid encoding two or more cloaked gene editors chosen from cloaked gene editors that target viral DNA, cloaked gene editors that target viral RNA, and combinations thereof. A composition for treating a lytic virus, including a vector encoding isolated nucleic acid encoding at least one cloaked gene editor that targets viral DNA and a cloaked viral RNA targeting composition. A composition for treating both lysogenic and lytic viruses, including a vector encoding isolated nucleic acid encoding two or more cloaked gene editors that target viral RNA. A composition for treating lytic viruses. A method of preventing antibody neutralizing effects with gene editors in humans. Methods of treating a lysogenic virus or a lytic virus, by administering the above compositions to an individual having a virus and inactivating the virus.
Abstract:
A system and method for managing blood product inventory, acquisition, transport and tracking. Blood centers can collect blood and other biologics and place supply information on a virtual market where hospitals and other healthcare institutions can see available quantities and types, select the amount and type needed, and make a purchase. The system and method enables distribution of blood and other biologics to institutions like hospitals and other healthcare institutions to be more efficient and more consistent in terms of quality and cost.
Abstract:
Disclosed in a filter for filtering a working fluid comprising a canister having an inlet and an outlet; a first partially perforated generally conical member positioned in said canister; a second generally conical member positioned inside said first partially perforated generally conical member, whereby the working fluid upon entering the inlet is caused to spin inside the canister, to pass through the perforated portion of the first generally conical member, to enter an inlet to the second generally conical member, to spin within the second conical member and to pass through the outlet.
Abstract:
An apparatus for passive extension and flexion of at least one finger of a patient with an upper arm unit, a lower arm unit, and at least one connective line. The apparatus is configured such that elbow extension of the patient promotes finger flexion. This is accomplished by taking advantage of the geometry of the arm, where the distance from a point on the patient's humeral area to the patient's fingers is greater when the patient's arm is in extension than when it is in flexion. In one aspect, the upper arm unit is configured to connect to a portion of the patient's arm between the patient's elbow and shoulder and the lower arm unit is configured to connect to a portion of the patient's arm intermediate the patient's hand and elbow.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for accessing Web services and URL resources for both primary and shared users over a reverse tunnel mechanism are provided. Current limitations on accessing Web services and URL resources located behind firewalls or otherwise made secure and largely inaccessible are overcome through a novel use of a “reverse tunneling” mechanism. The mechanism uses an Agent to obfuscate physical address endpoints of Web services and other resources, as well as to package SOAP service requests in such a way that they can be passed through firewalls unimpeded. All of this data transfer is made secure through encryption, strong authentication, and by making use of the security environment on both a user's individual device and the LAN proper. In addition, a primary user may share data access rights within the secure LAN environment to a secondary user and, using the present invention, provide only those access rights to the shared user over the open Internet.
