Abstract:
A fuel cell system and a control method thereof are provided. In the system, an oxygen sensor is mounted on the anode inlet side and the anode outlet side of a fuel cell stack to measure an oxygen concentration. Based on the measured oxygen concentration, a control operation is performed on the fuel cell system to reduce the oxygen concentration on the anode side. Accordingly, the irreversible deterioration of the fuel cell occurring due to the reverse voltage of the cell during driving of the fuel cell vehicle and the cathode carbon corrosion occurring due to the inflow of air during parking are effectively reduced, thereby increasing the durability of the fuel cell and the fuel cell vehicle.
Abstract:
A method for improving freezing resistance of a membrane electrode assembly is provided. In particular, the method improves freezing resistance of a membrane electrode assembly including conducting drying and heat treatment under certain conditions to produce an electrode that reduces formation of macro-cracks and micro-cracks in the electrode. Accordingly, water does not permeate the electrode excessively and the electrode does not break even when frozen.
Abstract:
An apparatus for measuring micro-cracks in a membrane electrode assembly includes a resistance measurement unit to measure variation in electrical resistance of the membrane electrode assembly while tensioning the membrane electrode assembly in a state in which power is applied to an upper catalyst layer while a lower catalyst layer is insulated, an image capture unit to capture an image of micro-cracks in the upper catalyst layer while the membrane electrode assembly is being tensioned, and a controller to detect, in real time, variation in electrical resistance measured by the resistance measurement unit, corresponding to the image of micro-cracks captured by the image capture unit, and to interpret the size of the micro-cracks generated in the membrane electrode assembly based on the detected variation in electrical resistance.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an integrated fluorine gasket manufactured by injection molding for hydrogen fuel cells. In particular, a fluorine compound having a fluorine content of about 60 to 75 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of a fluoroelastomer is disposed in a gasket. The resulting fluorine gasket is integrated with a thin bipolar plate having a thickness of about 200 μm or less to have a thickness of about 750 μm or less by injection molding on the thin bipolar plate and by cross-linking.
Abstract:
A channel frame for fuel cells is arranged for integrally assembling a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) having an electrolyte membrane, an anode electrode and a cathode electrode, with gas diffusion layers (GDLs) disposed on both surfaces of the membrane electrode assembly. The channel frame includes at least one protruding portion which protrudes toward an anode-side separator and a cathode-side separator and defines inlet or outlet channels for reaction gas on the channel frame.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a pinhole inspection apparatus, system and method for a membrane electrode assembly of a fuel cell, which can easily detect the position of a pinhole using water and a pH test paper from discoloration caused when the water is in contact with the pH test paper through the pinhole, thus solving the existing problems and allowing the membrane electrode assembly to be reused after the inspection. In particular, a lower fixture is configured to support the membrane electrode assembly and water is uniformly distributed on an upper surface of the membrane electrode assembly. A pH test paper is inserted between the membrane electrode assembly and the lower fixture and discolored upon coming in contact with water that passes through a pinhole in the membrane electrode assembly, thus detecting the presence and position of the pinhole.
Abstract:
A system for activating a fuel cell includes a flow meter for measuring the amount of water discharged from an outlet of the air electrode and an outlet of the fuel electrode; a pressure sensor for measuring the pressure at the respective outlets; and a back pressure regulator receiving flow values measured by the flow meters and pressure values measured by the pressure sensors, which are fed back from a controller, and regulating a pressure difference (ΔP=PCathode−PAnode) to be a value greater than 0. With the system, the activation time of a fuel cell and the amount of hydrogen used for the activation can be reduced, thus improving the productivity and manufacturing cost.
