Abstract: According to one embodiment, an electrode material is provided. The electrode material includes active material particles. The active material particle includes a phase of a monoclinic titanium dioxide and a phase of the spinel type lithium titanate. The active material particle includes a shell part and a core part surrounded by the shell part. The shell part is formed by dispersing at least a part of the phase of the spinel type lithium titanate on the active material particle. The core part includes a part of the phase of the monoclinic titanium dioxide.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, there is provided an active substance. The active substance includes particles of niobium titanium composite oxide and a phase including a carbon material. The niobium titanium composite oxide is represented by Ti1−xM1xNb2−yM2yO7. The phase is formed on at least a part of the surface of the particles. The carbon material shows, in a Raman chart obtained by Raman spectrometry, a G band observed at from 1530 to 1630 cm−1 and a D band observed at from 1280 to 1380 cm−1. A ratio IG/ID between a peak intensity IG of the G band and a peak intensity ID of the D band is from 0.8 to 1.2.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, there is provided an active material. The active material includes particles of a Na-containing niobium titanium composite oxide having an orthorhombic crystal structure. An intensity ratio I1/I2 is within a range of 0.12≤I1/I2≤0.25 in an X-ray diffraction pattern of the active material, according to X-ray diffraction measurement using a Cu-Kα ray. I1 is a peak intensity of a peak P1 that is present within a range where 2θ is 27° to 28° in the X-ray diffraction pattern of the active material. I2 is a peak intensity of a peak P2 that is present within a range where 2θ is 23° to 24° in the X-ray diffraction pattern of the active material.

Each of the secondary particles is constructed by aggregated primary particles of an active material. The primary particles of the active material includes a niobium composite oxide represented by LixM(1−y)NbyNb2O(7+δ), wherein M is at least one selected from the group consisting of Ti and Zr, and x, y, and δ respectively satisfy 0≦x≦6, 0≦y≦1, and −1≦δ≦1. The secondary particles have a compression fracture strength of 10 MPa or more.
