    摘要: An antiferroelectric liquid crystal display device including a specific antiferroelectric liquid crystal composition layer comprising at least one compound represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 represents an optionally substituted alkyl group having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, X represents a hydrogen or fluorine atom, m and n independently represents an integer 1 or 2, and * represents an asymmetric carbon atom, and at least one compound represented by the following general formula (II): ##STR2## wherein R.sup.3 represents an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy group, having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, R.sup.4 represents an optionally substituted alkyl group, having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, ##STR3## X represents a single bond or --COO--, Y represents a single bond, --O--, or --COO--, and k represents an integer 0 or 1.

    摘要: A liquid-crystal composition to be used in a multiplex-driving system in a twisted nematic (TN) type liquid-crystal display devices is extremely superior in its display characteristics, and is able to meet sufficiently the demands to increase the information content of various liquid-crystal display devices of high-level multiplexing operation. The liquid-crystal composition is more considerable in its usefulness than the validity thereof in half-tone display especially when it is used in a liquid-crystal television.The liquid crystal composition having a positive dielectric anisotropy in the nematic phase, comprises each 3 wt % or more of 2-(4-alkoxyphenyl)-5-alkylpyrimidine compound and of a cyanobiphenyl compound.

    摘要: An improved electrode assembly is disclosed herein especially for use in a matrix type liquid crystal display panel, which assures exact alignment of picture elements and increased yield of manufacture regardless of disalignment between scanning electrodes and signal electrodes in the electrode assembly. The display panel includes a first support carrying a plurality of the scanning electrodes, a second support carrying a plurality of the signal electrodes and disposed to face the first support and a layer of liquid crystal material interposed between the first and second supports. The signal electrodes are divided into an upper block and a lower block and the scanning electrodes are used in common for the upper and lower blocks. Pursuant to the present invention, the width of division between the upper and lower blocks of the signal electrodes is smaller than the spacing of the scanning electrodes.

    摘要: A method of driving a matrix type liquid crystal display device which compensates for the distortion of scanning signal and data waveforms caused by resistance and capacitance of the display device electrodes. In one embodiment of this method the timing of the scanning signal is advanced with respect to the timing of the data switching signal by a time determined by the resistor-capacitor time constant of the electrodes and display elements. In another embodiment of this method the switching timing of the scanning signal is delayed with respect to the leading edge of the data signal and the switching timing of the scanning signal is advanced with respect to the trailing edge of the data signal. The delay of the leading edge and the advance of the trailing edge are determined by the resistor-capacitor time constant of the electrode and display elements and the capacitance of the display element, respectively.
