A semiconductor laser device includes a semiconductor substrate of a first conductivity type; opposed light emitting facets; a double heterojunction structure disposed on the semiconductor substrate and including an optical waveguide that extends between the facets and comprises a light emitting region and a lens region, the lens region being between the light emitting region and one of the facets, the double heterojunction structure including a plurality of AlGaAs series compound semiconductor layers which are thicker in the light emitting region than in the lens region; and a current blocking structure disposed on both sides of the double heterojunction structure and including a lower AlGaAs series compound semiconductor layer of the first conductivity type, an intermediate AlGaAs series compound semiconductor layer of a second conductivity type, opposite the first conductivity type, and an upper AlGaAs series compound semiconductor layer of the first conductivity type. Therefore, a reactive current that does not contribute to laser oscillation is prevented from flowing through the current blocking structure.

Each of the stages has a first end in contact with the inner surface of the face plate and a second end in contact with one of the mask piece, so as to define a distance between each of the mask pieces and the phosphor screen and to apply a tensile force to the mask piece.

Mask support members are mounted on an inner surface of the rear plate. A plurality of positioning posts are fixed on the inner surface of the rear plate and extend toward the face plate. A plurality of positioning pins extend from the inner surface of the face plate and engage the positioning posts so as to position the face plate at a predetermined position with respect to the rear plate. The shadow mask has setting openings through which the positioning posts extend so as to position the shadow mask at a predetermined position with respect to the rear plate.

A multiquantum barrier structure is disposed between the active layer and one of the cladding layers. A color cathode ray tube includes a vacuum envelope including a panel having a single glass faceplate including an inner surface and central axis and a skirt extending from the faceplate, a rear metal plate hermetically connected to the skirt through a first connecting member, a plurality of funnels coupled to the rear plate through a second connecting member, and a plurality of necks respectively extending from the funnels. In the vacuum envelope, are provided a plurality of electron gun assemblies respectively received in the necks for emitting a plurality of electron beams, a screen formed on the inner surface of the faceplate for emitting visible light by excitation of the electron beams from the electron gun assemblies, and a mask received in the vacuum envelope so as to face to the screen and having an effective region for allowing passage of the electron beams to impinge on the screen. The first connecting member has stabilizing means for absorbing strain caused by difference between a thermal expansion amount of the rear plate and that of the panel.
