    摘要: An ultrasound probe which is capable of structurally improving resolution is provided. This ultrasound probe includes: an ultrasound probe which transmits ultrasound waves to a subject; and an optical probe which detects, with use of light, the ultrasound waves reflected off internal tissue of the subject, and openings of the ultrasound probe are larger than openings of the optical probe. With this, reflected waves (ultrasound waves) from the subject can be detected by the large openings, so that high resolution can be obtained relative to a width of the transmitted ultrasound waves.

    摘要: A planar illumination device includes an optical element outputting a diffusing light from a laser light source into an incident edge surface of a light guide plate. The optical element provides an output substantially parallel to a thickness direction of the light guide plate. A light deflecting unit, including a plurality of deflectors, is provided on a principal surface of the light guide plate for deflecting incident laser light towards an output surface of the light guide. The light deflecting unit is arranged such that a degree of deflection of the light incident on the light guide plate differs according to positions in the light guide plate, to make an amount of light outputted from the output surface uniform across such output surface.

    摘要: A wavelength detector capable of distinguishing between the changes of a transverse mode and of a longitudinal mode of a laser light and thus detecting the change of the wavelength of the laser light with high accuracy is provided. In a wavelength detector 13: a diffraction grating 16 diffracts a laser light emerging from a laser light source 10; photodetectors 50a and 50b are positioned symmetrically with respect to a 0-order diffracted light diffracted by the diffraction grating 16; and light incidence surfaces 51a and 51b of the photodetectors 50a and 50b, respectively, have the same shape and are each divided into a plurality of areas. The wavelength detector 13 detects the change of the wavelength of the laser light based on a value obtained by dividing the difference value between the sum of light intensities measured by all of the plurality of divided areas of the photodetector 50a and the sum of light intensities measured by all of the plurality of divided areas of the photodetector 50b, by the sum of light intensities measured by all of the plurality of divided areas of the two photodetectors 50a and 50b.

    摘要: A light source emits a light beam. A focusing optical system focuses the light beam on an information recording medium. First and second strip-shape photodetectors approximately extend on a common plane. First and second return light beams are generated on the basis of a light beam reflected and diffracted back from the medium. The return light beams have different focal points. Centers of the return light beams are received by the photodetectors respectively. The focal points of the first and second return light beams lie at a front side and a rear side of light-receiving surfaces of the first and second photodetectors respectively when sizes of the return light beams on the light-receiving surfaces of the photodetectors are equal. A focusing-error signal is generated in response to a difference between output signals from the first and second photodetectors. The first and second photodetectors extend approximately in parallel. The first and second photodetectors have approximately equal widths which agree with a value W.sub.x. A distance "d" between centers of the first and second return light beams on the first and second photodetectors is equal to or smaller than a sum of a value D and the value W.sub.x which is measured along a direction parallel to a line connecting the centers of the first and second return light beams. The value D is equal to diameters of the first and second return light beams on the first and second photodetectors when the diameters of the first and second return light beams on the first and second photodetectors are equal.
