Abstract: A customizable modular dialysate regeneration assembly with connectable sorbent packaging systems. The dialysate regeneration assembly can be customized based on patient parameters or dialysis session parameters. A processor can be included that can determine the correct amount of each sorbent material necessary for a given patient and a given dialysis session.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for replenishing urease in a sorbent cartridge for use in sorbent dialysis using urease pouches. The sorbent cartridge is configured to allow insertion of a urease pouch or injection of a urease solution into the sorbent cartridge containing a urease pouch. The sorbent module can also comprise other, rechargeable, sorbent materials for removing toxins other than urea from spent dialysate.

Abstract: The invention relates to systems and methods for optimizing a peritoneal dialysate prescription based on one or more fluid characteristics sensed from a filtrate removed from a patient. The systems and methods include sensors, flow paths, and processors to adjust a peritoneal dialysate prescription and deliver peritoneal dialysis therapy to a patient based on the adjusted prescription. The method can include the steps of removing fluid from a peritoneal cavity of a patient; sampling one or more characteristics of the removed fluid; and adjusting a peritoneal dialysate prescription based on the one or more characteristics of the removed fluid. The system can include a peritoneal dialysate effluent line; at least one concentrate source fluidly connectable to the peritoneal dialysate flow path; and at least one sensor positioned in the peritoneal dialysate effluent line.

Abstract: The invention relates to devices, systems, and methods for measuring dialysis adequacy in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis treatment. The devices, systems, and methods use one or more flow sensors and one or more solute sensors to measure the concentration of a uremic solute and volume of the peritoneal dialysate removed from the patient, and to calculate the dialysis adequacy based on the measured peritoneal dialysate concentration and volume.

Abstract: A stacked sorbent assembly for use in sorbent dialysis. The stacked sorbent assembly contains two or more interchangeable sorbent pouches that allow for fluid to freely pass into and through the sorbent materials, while keeping the sorbent materials inside the sorbent pouches. Any of the pouches in the sorbent cartridge can be reused and/or recharged.

Abstract: The invention relates to systems and methods for performing dialysis with closed-loop control of sodium and bicarbonate concentrations in the dialysate. The system and methods can use one or more conductivity sensors in a dialysate flow path to determine a water addition rate and a bicarbonate addition rate resulting in a dialysate having desired sodium and bicarbonate concentrations.
