摘要: A ridge waveguide-type optical semiconductor device and a method of fabricating the same. The method of fabrication includes forming a first clad layer, a core layer, a second clad layer and a contact layer, in the stated order on a semiconductor substrate, forming a strip-shaped etching mask on the contact layer, removing the contact layer and the second clad layer selectively by etching, using the etching mask, until the core layer is exposed, so as to form a ridge including etched second clad layer, and forming a semiconductor layer by crystal growth, so as to form a mode control layer on the exposed surface of the core layer. The semiconductor device includes a semiconductor substrate, a first clad layer formed on the substrate, a core layer serving as a waveguide, on the first clad layer, and a strip-shaped second clad layer on the core layer. A mode control layer is formed on the core layer, and insulating layers are formed on the mode control layer, at opposite sides of the second clad layer. To confine light to waveguide, the mode control layer has a refractive index equal to or less than a refractive index of the core layer, and is larger than refractive indexes of the respective insulating layers.

摘要: To inhibit the excessive wearing of a friction contact surface forming portion of a brake drum and a friction member by the abrading action of a worn powder and the like, and to reinforce the friction contact surface forming portion, in a drum body of a brake drum, an annular friction contact surface forming section includes a plurality of composite portions disposed in a circumferential direction thereof, each comprising a metal matrix and a large number of dispersions, and a plurality of metal portions formed only of a metal. Thus, it is possible to force a worn powder and the like into each of the metal portions of the friction contact surface forming section by the urging force of the friction member during a braking operation to retain the worn powder and the like.

摘要: A computer system is provided has a computer main body and an expansion unit to be attached to and detached from the computer main body. Power is input to the computer system in accordance with a plurality of factors. A power supply controller determines which factor has caused power-ON for the computer system, and writes the result of this determination into a power-ON factor register. BIOS reads the content stored in the power-ON factor register and executes processing in accordance with power-ON factors. Before the computer system is switched on, the power supply controller determines the connection, type and state of the expansion unit and writes the result of this into the state register. BIOS executes error processing, etc., in accordance with the content of the state register.

摘要: A color picture tube satisfies the following conditions. First, a value of df(r)/dr is zero in a first area on an inner surface of a panel which includes a point at which r=0, and is negative in a second area from an outside of the first area to the point at which r=L.sub.d, where r denotes a radial distance from the Z-axis, and f(r) denotes a position of a point on the inner surface of the panel in a direction of the Z-axis, and the point at which r=L.sub.d denotes an outermost point in a diagonal direction of the image display area. Second, a value of d.sup.2 f(r)/dr.sup.2 is negative in a third area from the point at which r=0 to an inside of a point at which r=R.sub.2 being within the second area, is zero at the point at which r=R.sub.2, and is positive in a fourth area from an outside of the point at which r=R.sub.2 to the point at which r=L.sub.d. Third, a thickness of the panel in the second area in the direction of the Z-axis is larger than that in the first area in the direction of the Z-axis.

摘要: Method of automating at least a portion of an output gradation adjustment job for an image output apparatus. Test image data are corrected according to an initial gradation correction curve, and a test image is formed according to the image data thus corrected. The test image is read by a scanner to obtain read data. Based on the read data thus obtained, test image data are newly formed. Based on the newly formed test image data, a test image is again formed. The second-time test image thus formed is read by the scanner to obtain read data. Based on the read data obtained by reading the second-time test image, the initial gradation correction curve and a predetermined reference output curve, candidate point data are obtained. Based on the candidate point data, a gradation correction curve is formed and set.

摘要: A flat cathode-ray tube in which a ceramics film or a glass film is formed by thermal spray on the coupled surface of a metal case. This assembly and a glass screen are coupled through crystallized frit glass or by glass fusion. The coupling between the metal case and the glass screen has a coupling strength sufficient to resist the vacuum stress. The metal case, which is not exposed for a long time to high temperatures during thermal spraying, can be made of a metal for realizing a lightweight without any thermal deformation or dimensional variations, thereby attaining satisfactory mechanical properties.

摘要: There are provided a cathode-ray tube display unit which can be manufactured with reduced weight and cost and which can have a screen plane flattened without the use of any metal band, and a method of making the same. The screen panel is previously deformed by the use of a jig and then sealingly connected to a funnel. After the jig has been removed, the interior of the display tube body is extracted to form a vacuum. The display tube body is distorted by the extraction, but such a distortion can be corrected by deformations previously applied to the display tube body. Thus, the screen plane can be flattened without the use of any metal band.
