摘要: It is an object to provide a display device having an electroluminescent element in which a contrast ratio is increased. In a display device having an electroluminescent element between a pair of light transmitting substrates, a circularly polarizing plate having stacked polarizing plates arranged on outer sides thereof is provided. At this time, opposed polarizing plates are arranged to be in a crossed nicol state or in a parallel nicol state. As a result, a display device with a high contrast ratio can be provided.

摘要: In a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device in which a liquid crystal layer is formed by dropping liquid crystal by a dropping method, a surface of a sealant which is formed over a first substrate is cured by a first cure treatment before dropping the liquid crystal, and then the liquid crystal is dropped. A second substrate has a plurality of projections in a sealant adhesive region. The first substrate and the second substrate are attached to each other with the liquid crystal interposed therebetween so that the plurality of projections is in contact with an uncured region in the sealant formed over the first substrate.

摘要: There is disclosed a lightweight and small liquid crystal display which achieves low power consumption and in which the optical anisotropy of the liquid crystal material is compensated for in order to enhance the viewing angle characteristics and the response speed of the liquid crystal material. Display electrodes and a common electrode are formed on one of the substrates. The orientation of the liquid crystal material is of the HAN (hybrid alignment nematic) type. This compensates for the optical anisotropy of the liquid crystal material and improves the response speed.

摘要: A light emitting element, in which voltages having different polarities are applied alternately in order to prevent the accumulation of electric charge in an organic compound layer of the light emitting element, and in which light is always emitted, no matter whether a positive polarity voltage or a negative polarity voltage is applied, is provided. An opposing electrode is formed between a first electrode and a second electrode, and a first light emitting element having a compound layer that contains a first organic substance between the first electrode and the opposing electrode, and a second light emitting element having a compound layer that contains a second organic substance between the opposing electrode and the second electrode, are formed in the present invention. Note that a constant voltage (reference voltage) is imparted to the opposing electrode, and that voltages having inverse polarities are applied simultaneously, and alternately for fixed periods of time, to the first electrode and the second electrode. A light emitting element that always emits light, even if the polarity of the applied voltage changes, can thus be formed.

摘要: To provide a film forming apparatus in which an impurity contained in an organic compound is separated to be removed and a film is formed without decreasing the purity of the purified organic compound, whereby a high-purity organic compound is formed. A film forming apparatus of the present invention includes a purifying chamber for purifying an organic compound and a film forming chamber for vapor-depositing the purified organic compound onto a substrate. The organic compound purified by a zone melting method in the purifying chamber can be vapor-deposited onto the substrate provided in the film forming chamber without decreasing the purity thereof, so that a high-purity organic compound layer can be formed.

摘要: By doping an organic compound functioning as an electron donor (hereinafter referred to as donor molecules) into an organic compound layer contacting a cathode, donor levels can be formed between respective LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) levels between the cathode and the organic compound layer, and therefore electrons can be injected from the cathode, and transmission of the injected electrons can be performed with good efficiency. Further, there are no problems such as excessive energy loss, deterioration of the organic compound layer itself, and the like accompanying electron movement, and therefore an increase in the electron injecting characteristics and a decrease in the driver voltage can both be achieved without depending on the work function of the cathode material.
