The transmission joint (10) further has an axial stop member (32) connected to the first element (16) which interacts with a complementary spherical stop surface (52) formed in a sealing boot (54) of the transmission joint (10) for immobilizing the first element (16) axially in relation to the second element (18) in at least one direction of relative axial displacement. The sealing boot (54) has a first end (58) which is fastened to the second element (18) and a second end (62) which is fastened to the first shaft (12).

    摘要: A sealing boot for sealing a power transmitting mechanical joint, especially a mechanical joint which is subject to angular articulation between its input shaft and output shaft. The mechanical joint has an outer race which is a part of its output shaft, and the outer race has an external spherical surface. The sealing boot has a non-flexible portion which surrounds a portion of the outer race, and this non-flexible portion has a spherical inner surface which sealingly engages the external spherical sealing surface of the outer race in surface-to-surface contact. The non-flexible portion of the boot and the outer race of the joint can be articulated relative to one another without breaking the seal therebetween. In the preferred embodiment the remainder of the boot constitutes a non-pleated non-flexible second boot segment, one end of which is received in a spherical slot of the first non-flexible portion and the other end of which sealingly engages the input shaft of the mechanical joint. A portion of the articulation required of the power transmitting mechanical joint is obtained by the movement of the second boot segment in the spherical slot of the spherical boot segment. Additional articulation is provided by the spherical sliding of the spherical boot segment on the spherical surface of the outer race after the second boot segment bottoms in the spherical slot of the spherical boot segment.

    摘要: The apparatus prevents the unintentional removal of a universal joint of the type where a tubular outer member is provided on an end portion of a shaft. In this structure, plural longitudinal directional sliding grooves are arranged in parallel one with another and an inner member provided on an end portion of another shaft is provided with plural spherical surface members. These may be spherical surface rollers, balls or the like. The respective spherical surface members are in slidable engagement with associated sliding grooves. An open end of the outer member has an annular closure member and is provided with concave portions facing the respective spherical surface members in the sliding grooves. The inner surfaces are formed into spherical surfaces substantially in conformity with the spherical surfaces of the spherical surface members.

The outer race defines a compartment. A rotatable second shaft terminates at an inner race in the compartment. The inner race is rotatable with the outer race and is pivotably connected to the outer race such that the inner race and second shaft are pivotable relative to the outer race. A boot comprised of a flexible material has an upper region connected to the outer race and a lower region connected to the second shaft. A can overlies the boot and includes a shaping region for maintaining a shape of the boot along at least a portion of the boot as the boot expands. The can and boot permit the joint to be fully sealed with optimized performance.
