    Abstract: Techniques are described for capturing dropped packets and creating modified dropped packets with drop information associated with the dropped packets to provide greater details of the dropped packets for further analysis and/or serviceability. For example, a computing device comprises an internal communication channel, a process executing in user space, and a virtual router. The virtual router comprises, for example, processing circuitry and a drop interface to the internal communication channel, wherein the virtual router is configured to: receive a packet; in response to determining the packet is to be dropped, creating a modified dropped packet to include drop information associated with the packet; and provide the modified dropped packet to the drop interface to communicate the modified dropped packet via the internal communication channel to the process.

    Abstract: A switch is provided for routing packets in an interconnection network. The switch includes egress ports to transmit packets, and ingress ports to receive packets. The switch also includes a buffer capacity circuit configured to obtain local buffer capacity for buffers configured to buffer packets transmitted via the switch. The switch also includes a telemetry circuit configured to receive telemetry flow control units from next switches coupled to the switch. Each telemetry flow control unit corresponds to buffer capacity at a respective next switch. The switch also includes a network capacity circuit configured to compute network capacity for transmitting packets to a destination based on the telemetry flow control units and the local buffer capacity. The switch also includes a routing circuit configured to receive packets via the ingress ports, and route the packets to the destination, via the egress ports, with bandwidth proportional to the network capacity.

Various example embodiments for supporting packet routing in a communication system may be configured to support controller provided protection paths in a communication network based on use of path control capabilities in which a network controller computes paths for a network and configures the paths in the network based on configuration of the paths on nodes of the network and based on routing capabilities in which the nodes use the routing paths for routing of traffic (e.g., via primary paths) and rerouting of traffic (e.g., via controller provided protection paths).

    Abstract: Methods and systems for generating a model of a transit autonomous system (AS) network. The method comprises analyzing the routing information base for each border gateway protocol (BGP) node in the AS and storing, for each BGP router, (i) a routing table; and, (ii) a prioritized list of next hops for each prefix based on the appropriate best path algorithm. The model can be used to (a) determine how traffic will be routed through the transit AS in steady state and failure scenarios (e.g. when one or more links or nodes/routers have failed); and/or (b) determine how traffic should be routed through the transit AS (e.g. determine the best routes) in steady state and failure scenarios. The optimal routing of the traffic in a particular steady state or failure scenario (as determined by the model) can be compared to the actual routing of the traffic in the steady state or failure scenario (as determined by the model) to determine what changes to make to the transit AS to achieve the optimum routing.

    Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for providing network assurance. In some embodiments, a method can include receiving input used to identify an endpoint. At least one logical object associated with the endpoint of logical objects in a network environment is identified based on the input. A health of the at least one logical object associated with the endpoint is determined. Additionally, a health of the network environment with respect to the endpoint operating to provide services through the network environment is determined based on the determined health of the at least one logical object associated with the endpoint.
