    摘要: A drill chuck has a chuck body centered on and adapted to be rotated about a longitudinal axis and unitarily formed with a plurality of forwardly open angled guides angularly spaced about the axis and an axially forwardly directed shoulder. Respective jaws displaceable along the guides in the chuck body are each formed with a row of teeth and a tightening sleeve rotatably surrounds the body and has an axially rearwardly directed shoulder. An inner ring rotatable on the body about the axis is formed internally with a screwthread meshing with the teeth of the jaws so that rotation of the inner ring in one direction moves the jaws radially together and opposite rotation moves them radially apart. This inner ring bears axially forward on the shoulder of the sleeve and axially backward on the shoulder of the body. Interengaging formations rotationally couple the inner ring to the sleeve and a retaining element axially fixed on the chuck body forward of the inner ring bears axially backward on the sleeve. The chuck body has axially rearward of the interengaging formations a predetermined outside diameter and the sleeve has axially rearward of the interengaging formations a predetermined inside diameter greater than the outside diameter of the body. The ring has a predetermined outside diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the sleeve so that the ring can be fitted axially forward into the sleeve and the sleeve and ring together can be fitted axially backward over the body.

    摘要: A method for controlling an initial position of a magnetically levitated body comprises sensing the position of the levitated body by position sensors and applying exciting currents to electromagnets in response to the sensed position to adjust the position of the body to an initial central position. The sensing step comprises detecting a first limiting position of the body in a first direction and detecting a second limiting position of the body in a second direction opposite the first direction. The applying step comprises calculating a central position from the first and second limiting positions and applying exciting currents to the electromagnets to move the body into the calculated central position. An apparatus for controlling positioning of a magnetically levitated body based on limiting positions is also disclosed.

    摘要: A chuck actuator has a cylinder extending along an axis and having an axially extending stem whose outer surface is formed with a pair of central radially outwardly open and axially spaced intake ports, a piston axially displaceable in the cylinder and forming therein two compartments connected via respective passages connected to the intake ports, two axially spaced bearings on the stem, and a connector supported by the bearings on the stem. This connector normally is restrained against rotation relative to the axis and has an inner surface closely juxtaposed with and forming with the stem surface an interface. Respective radially inwardly open and axially spaced inner feed grooves open at the interface level with the respective intake ports. Two independent hydraulic fittings communicating with the inner feed grooves can pass pressurized liquid to the respective compartments. A pair of middle lubricating grooves immediately axially flanking the inner feed grooves and opening radially inward at the interface, are connected to a drain chamber below the axis by respective middle drain passages extending downward from the middle lubricating grooves to the drain chamber. A shunt passage carries liquid axially therebetween and respective lubricating passages carry liquid from the middle grooves to the bearings. Respective outer drain grooves open radially on the connector between each bearing and the respective middle groove, and are connected with the bearings by respective outer drain passages to the drain chamber.

    摘要: A spindle is rotatably mounted within a housing on spaced-apart antifriction bearings. The inner races of the bearings are held solidly against shoulder portions of the spindle and the outer race of the front bearing is mounted against a shoulder in the housing. The outer race of the rear bearing is supported in a circular diaphragm concentric with the spindle axis, which may be flexed along the axis to load the bearings against one another. A hydraulic chamber is formed against the diaphragm to load the diaphragm at preselected intervals, and a stop plate is provided in the housing to limit movement of the outer race is a distance corresponding to a maximum preload in the bearings. When the stop plate is contacted, hydraulic pressure may be greatly increased to further load the diaphragm and its corresponding outer race solidly against the stop plate without further increasing the preload in the bearing set, providing a high holding force resistant to spindle pull out.

    摘要: A high speed motorized spindle is provided with a hollow tool-driving shaft having tool clamping means slidably disposed therein. A piston rod actuates the tool clamping means to slide in one direction to release a tool shank and spring means actuates the tool clamping means to slide in the other direction for gripping the tool shank when the piston rod is withdrawn. The piston rod actuates a collect clamp to clamp the tool-driving shaft against movement from tool unclamping forces when the tool clamping means is slid in the direction to release the tool shank. The tool-driving shaft is releasably oriented in a tool exchange position by a cam plate rotatable therewith being engaged by solenoid actuated cam lock member movably mounted in the housing.
