The invention concerns a process and a device for the manufacture of relatively deep cavities in massive workpieces through a laser beam, whereby the material is removed by the laser beam (7) in close guide paths. According to the invention, during each linear ablation process the laser beam (7) deviated vertically is rotated by a predetermined angle while the workpiece (12) is moved back and forth synchronously on a circular path (14) around the rotating axis (4) of the laser beam (7). Upon ablation of a material layer, these linear ablation processes are repeated until the predetermined depth of the cavity has been reached. According to the invention, pocket-like or chamber-like cavities (13) with vertical or undercut walls can be produced with considerable ablation performance in often inappropriate materials such as ceramics, titanium, etc.

Object of the invention is a pallet exchanger for machine tools (1), which features a rotating unit (24), arranged between the workpiece table (5) and the standby position, with support elements for a form-closed and releasable fastening of a pallet. In order to transfer the workpiece pallet (6), the rotating unit (24) rotates along the vertical axis. To avoid additional support elements for the pallets, the support elements are designed as support hooks (25), which subsequent to a vertical elevation of the rotating unit (24) engage with support profiles (28) on the pallet (6) and hold the pallet self-supportedly.

The device comprises at least one gripper movable in plural axes between a tool magazine and the horizontal and vertical work spindles respectively. The gripper is secured to a program-controlled motor-driven support and transfers the tools from the transfer position of the tool magazine to the horizontal or vertical work spindle. In accordance with the disclosure a bracket is mounted on a cross member secured to a sidewall of the machine frame, the bracket being axially movable and pivotable within predetermined limit positions. A bent or cranked support is mounted on the free end of the bracket for rotation therewith and carries a 90.degree.-rotatable cross-arm including the gripper.

In order to achieve automatic positioning of the tool spindle (2) in its tool-change position after presetting by means of the rotational position indicator, the positioning device has a cross pin (11) which is secured to the clamping arrangement (5), projects through an elongated axial hole (13) in the tool spindle (2), and is guided between two guide surfaces of a guide member (15) on longitudinal movement of the clamping arrangement (5).

The object of the invention is a cubicle for machining centers, consisting of a front one or multipart face wall and stationary or multipart side walls (11, 12), which can be designed to be like sliding doors. In order to prevent damage to the side walls or the windows therein through a collision with a workpiece projecting sideways during the machining cycle or during set up, a part of the side walls (11, 12), according to the invention, is designed to swing sideways, so that it can yield way by a pre-determined distance upon impact by a workpiece. At least one emergency switch is installed in the movement range of these side wall parts, which switches off the forward drive of the workpiece table(s) (4) when it is activated.

Non-rotatable spacers serve to position the cam discs. A spherical key bed clamp axially clamps the cam discs together while permitting rotation of individual ones thereof. A non-rotating indicating disc displays the present RPM or respective gear stage. A shock absorber in the individual gear trains between switching bars and their respective electric motors provides sufficient damping and cushioning to prevent a hard start-up impact when the motor is switched on or when a sliding gear block is engaged. The shock absorber may include an elastic linkage or an elastic spur gear in a toothed wheel gear reduction unit located between the motor drive shaft and the link shaft.

This invention concerns a control unit for program-controlled machine tools with control circuits for the individual feed motors (20) of the moving machine parts (2) which are connected to the program control unit (34) and also contain at least one switching element (14) for manually switching on feed motors (20). In order to give the operator a feel for the respective operating process in manual operation, each control circuit according to this invention has at least one sensor (26, 42) for detecting a power parameter (I;M) of the respective feed motor (20). Furthermore, a brake gear (30 or 44) that is controlled by the output signals of the sensor (26; 42) is assigned to each switching element that is designed as a manually adjustable control element (14), whereby the braking device is actuated in proportion to the power parameters picked up by the sensors and it makes continued turning of the control element which is designed as a hand crank more difficult.
