    摘要: A novel Phillips catalyst for the copolymerization of ethylene with .alpha.-olefins, contains, as a catalytically active component, a finely divided, aluminum silicate-supported, phosphorus-containing chromium catalyst. This can be prepared by applying at least one organic phosphorus(III), (IV) and/or (V) compound and at least one chromium(III) compound which does not react with said phosphorus compounds under the reaction conditions used, in succcession in any order or simultaneously, to a finely divided aluminum silicate hydrogel or xerogel with formation of a catalyst intermediate and activating the catalyst intermediate at elevated temperatures in an oxidizing atmosphere, with the result that the chromium catalyst is formed. The novel Phillips catalyst gives ethylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymers in which the comonomers are more uniformly distributed over the copolymer chains than is the case with ethylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymers which have been prepared with the aid of conventional Phillips catalysts. Moldings which have been produced from the ethylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymers obtained in the novel procedure have a particularly high environmental stress cracking resistance and an excellent creep rupture strength.

    摘要: This is an improved process for the hydrogenation of conjugated diolefin polymers which comprises polymerizing or copolymerizing at least one conjugated diolefin with an organo alkali metal polymerization initiator in a suitable solvent thereby creating a living polymer, terminating the polymerization by the addition of hydrogen and effecting selective hydrogenation of the unsaturated double bonds in the conjugated diolefin units of the terminated polymer by contacting the polymer, in the absence of hydrocarbon lithium and alkoxy lithium compounds, with hydrogen in the presence of at least one bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium compound. The improvement is the use of an alkyl benzoate as a promoter in the hydrogenation step.

    摘要: A molding composition is disclosed which comprises ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity of 10-30 dl/g at 135.degree. C. in decalin. Improved injection moldability is provided by the use of such polyethylene obtainable by a multi-stage polymerization reaction including at least the following two stages: (a) a first stage in which ethylene is polymerized using a specified composite catalyst in the absence of hydrogen of its presence at lower concentration to produce 50-99.5 weight parts of polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity of 12-32 dl/g at 135.degree. C. in decalin; and (b) a second stage in which a fresh feed of ethylene is polymerized in the presence of hydrogen at higher concentration to produce 50-0.5 weight parts of polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.1-5 dl/g at 135.degree. C. in decalin.

    摘要: A solution polymerization process for the preparation of high molecular weight polymers selected from the group consisting of homopolymers of ethylene and copolymers of ethylene and butene-1 is disclosed. The process comprises feeding monomer(s), coordination catalyst and inert hydrocarbon solvent to a reactor, polymerizing the monomers at a temperature of up to 320.degree. C. and a pressure of less than 25 MPa, and deactivating the catalyst in the solution so obtained. The catalyst is deactivated by sequentially admixing therewith a minor amount of dimethyl carbonate followed by a solution of a salt of an alkaline earth metal or zinc and an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid dissolved in hydrocarbon solvent. The hydrocarbon solvent and other volatile matter are then separated from the resultant solution and a composition comprising the high molecular weight polymer is recovered. The amount of dimethyl carbonate is not more than 2.5 moles, per mole of halogen plus alkyl radicals in the coordination catalyst.

    摘要: It has been found that substituted hydroquinones function as a shortstop agent in the polymerization of vinyl monomers. The substituted hydroquinones have the formula: ##STR1## wherein ##STR2## wherein p is 1 or 2 and q is 0 or 1; provided that p+q=1 or 2. The groups R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, Z and W are defined hereafter.The compounds 2,5-di-t-amylhydroquinone and 2,5-di-t-butylhydroquinone are particularly desirable as shortstop agents in the polymerization of vinyl chloride.
